Gender Differences in the Development of Self-Regulatory Mechanisms in the Course of Adolescence

Abstract:

Předkládaná práce se zabývá vývojem seberegulačních mechanismů, přičemž vycházíme z Baltesovy teorie životního vývoje, v rámci které představuje model SOC mechanismů (selekce, optimalizace, kompenzace a selekce založené na ztrátě). Práce zkoumá vliv věku na využívání seberegulačních mechanismů v akademické a sociální oblasti, zkoumá tedy vývojové trendy stejně jako genderové rozdíly ve využívání těchto mechanismů. Předkládaná práce také zkoumá současný vliv věku a pohlaví na využívání SOC mechanismů v obou zkoumaných oblastech. Výzkumný vzorek tvořilo 1029 osob ve věku 11-20 let. Výsledky ukazují signifikantní genderové rozdíly ve využívání seberegulačních mechanismů v akademické i sociální oblasti a ukazují také významné rozdíly v jejich využívání v obou oblastech mezi jednotlivými věkovými obdobími v rámci adolescence.

Abstract:

This Master’s thesis deals with the development of self-regulatory mechanisms based on the Baltes’s Life Span Developmental Theory in which he presents the SOC mechanisms model (selection, optimization, compensation and loss-based selection). The research has carried out investigation into the influence of age on the use of self-regulatory mechanisms both in the academic and social domains. Therefore it deals with developmental trends as well as gender differences in the use of these mechanisms. The presented research also investigates the simultaneous influence of age and gender on the use of SOC mechanisms in both researched areas. The research sample consisted of 1,029 subjects in the age range of 11-20. The results have shown significant gender differences in the use of self-regulatory mechanisms in both academic and social domains. At the same time they have determined significant differences in their use in both domains in individual developmental stages within adolescence.
