Canadian cultural standards in the workplace

Abstract:

Cílem této diplomové práce je identifikovat kanadské kulturní standardy v pracovním prostředí. Práce popisuje národní kulturu, objasňuje pojem kulturní šok, vysvětluje jeho fáze a charakterizuje jednotlivé kulturní standardy a dimenze, které jsou následně porovnány se zjištěnými daty v empirické části. Výzkum je proveden prostřednictvím polostrukturovaných hloubkových rozhovorů s Čechy, kteří mají zkušenosti z kanadského pracovního prostředí v anglofonní části Kanady. Vedlejším cílem této práce je stanovení praktických doporučení, která mohou být nápomocná českým občanům při střetu s kanadskou kulturou.

Abstract:

This master‘s thesis aim is to identify the Canadian cultural standards in the workplace. The thesis describes a national culture, clarifies the concept of culture shock, explains its phases, and characterizes individual cultural standards and dimensions that are compared with detected data in the empirical part of the thesis. The research is conducted through semi-structured in-depth interviews with Czech people with work experiences in the Canadian workplace in the anglophone part of Canada. The secondary aim of the thesis is to establish practical recommendations which can be helpful to Czech people when they encounter Canadian culture.
