The role of China and its attitude to the air pollution issue in South Korea

Abstract:

Diplomová práce se zabývá environmentálním vlivem Číny na kvalitu ovzduší na území Jižní Koreje a vnímáním situace z pozice korejské veřejnosti. Pozice Číny v dané problematice je sporná, proto tato práce sleduje vztah mezi reálným podílem Číny na znečištění a postojem Korejců, který je tvořen různými faktory. Diplomová práce je rozdělena na teoretickou a praktickou část. V teoretické části jsou charakterizovány zkoumané země a jejich vzájemný vztah. Dále je představena problematika kvality ovzduší a situace v obou zemích s důrazem na přístup zemí k řešení. Následně je na základě relevantní literatury diskutováno přeshraniční znečištění a jeho pravděpodobný vliv na kvalitu ovzduší v Koreji. Závěrem teoretické části jsou uvedeny dosavadní společné kroky zemí k boji s tímto environmentálním problémem. Praktická část je zaměřena na postoj Jihokorejců k dané problematice a identifikaci faktorů, které jejich postoje ovlivňují. Samotný výzkum má podobu dotazníku, který byl distribuován občanům Korejské republiky. Korejská veřejnost má na Čínu a její roli v otázce znečištění ovzduší na základě výzkumu negativní pohled. Závěr práce je věnován identifikaci faktorů, kterými jsou dané postoje ovlivněny.

Abstract:

The diploma thesis deals with the topic of the environmental influence of China on air quality in South Korea and perception of the situation from Korean perspective. China´s position within the problematics is questionable, therefore the thesis monitors relation between the real contribution of China to air pollution and Korean attitude, which is formed by various factors. Diploma thesis is devided into theoretical and practical part. In theoretical part, both countries and their mutual relations are described, followed up with introduction of air quality problematics and situation in both countries with emphasis on their individual approaches. Following chapter is focused on discussion of transboundary air pollution and its impact on air quality in South Korea. Final part describes the common steps taken so far to fight this environmental problem. Practical part is focused on Korean perception of the problematics and identification of factors, that influence them the most. The research itself takes form of a questionnaire, which was distributed to Korean citizens. Korean public opinion towards China and its role within the air pollution problematics is accroding to the research negative. Final part is devoted to identification of the factors, that formed their perception to the greatest extent.
