The mentality of children from Vietnamese ethnic group at primary school with respect to the intercultural psychology

Abstract:

Diplomová práce se zabývá mentalitou vietnamských dětí mladšího školního věku na 1. stupni základní školy. V teoretické části vymezuje pojmy úzce související s tématem jako kultura, akulturace, asimilace, etnická skupina, národnostní menšina, stereotypy, předsudky a migrace. Poté popisuje historický kontext migrace vietnamských občanů do České republiky a česko-vietnamské vztahy od počátku jejich vývoje až do současnosti. Přibližuje vybraná specifika vietnamského náboženství, vietnamskou kulturu a její tradice, věnuje se vietnamskému jazyku a tradiční i současné výchově a vzdělávání ve Vietnamu. Dále se zaobírá sociálně-psychologickou charakteristikou Vietnamců, jejich vztahem k českým občanům a České republice, rozebírá také vztahy Čechů k Vietnamcům, seznamuje nás s nejčastějšími stereotypy o Vietnamcích, s problematikou týkající se jejich integrace v České republice. Teoretickou část uzavírá popis možných odlišností vietnamských a českých dětí mladšího školního věku v české škole. V druhé části, s využitím empirického šetření, poskytuje práce hlubší pohled na mentalitu vietnamských dětí na nižším stupni základní školy. Za pomoci rozhovorů s vietnamskými dětmi vysvětluje příčiny některých odlišností, například jakou roli hraje v jejich životě vzdělání, co jim dělá ve škole problémy, v čem ve škole vynikají, jaká je jejich úroveň znalosti češtiny a vietnamštiny, zda se úspěšně integrují do české společnosti nebo jaký vztah mají k České republice a k Vietnamu. Cílem praktické části je tedy pomocí empirického šetření s využitím metody interview přiblížit mentalitu vietnamských dětí, které žijí v České republice a navštěvují zde 1. stupeň základní školy. Z dostupných informací je známo, že tyto děti vyrůstají v českém prostředí a českých modelech a téměř bez problému se integrují do české společnosti. Otázkou je tedy nejen míra úspěšnosti jejich integrace, ale také to, do jaké míry se ukazují jejich odlišnosti v závislosti na jejich mentalitě, nejen ve škole, ale i mimo školní prostředí.

Abstract:

The concern of this Dissertation is a mentality of younger, school age Vietnamese children at the primary school. The theoretical part of the Dissertation defines terms closely connected with subjects such as culture, acculturation, assimilation, ethnic group, national minority, stereotypes, prejudice and migration. Afterwards it describes the historical context of migration of Vietnamese citizens to Czech Republic and a Czech-Vietnamese relationship, from the time these relationships started developing till the present day. It closely describes some specifications of Vietnamese religion, Vietnamese culture and its traditions, it also devotes to Vietnamese language and to both traditional and modern upbringing and education in Vietnam. Further it discusses the social - psychological characteristic of Vietnamese and their relationship to Czech and Czech citizens, it also analyzes the relationship of Czech people to Vietnamese, it tells us about the most common stereotypes about Vietnamese, problems connected with their integration in Czech Republic. The theoretical part is concluded by description of the possible differences between Vietnamese and Czech young school children in Czech schools. The second part of the Dissertation gives us deeper view of the mentality of Vietnamese children at primary school, thanks to empirical inquiry. Thanks to this discussionwith Vietnamese children it explains the causes of some differences like for example the role of education in their lives, what causes them problems at school, what are they good at, how well they can speak Czech and Vietnamese, whether they manage to integrate well into the Czech society or how they feel about Czech Republic and Vietnam. The aim of the practical part is to give deeper insight into the mentality of Vietnamese children attending primary school in the Czech Republic. The practical part was based on empirical inquiry with interviewing techniques. It is know, from accessible information, that these children are growing up in Czech Republic environment and Czech models and they manage to integrate into the Czech society without big problems. The question is not only the degree of success of their integration but also to what extent are their differences based on their mentality at school and also out of school environment.
