Tax literacy of high school graduate students

Abstract:

V osobním i finančním plánování je znalost daní důležitým aspektem (Saad, 2015). Ze studií, které se zabývají oblastí úrovně daňových znalostí mladých lidí tzv. generace Z, je zřejmé, že pouze 40 % je daňově gramotných (Machová, Šeben & Kútna 2019). Je tedy velmi důležité, aby současná mladá generace, byla v této oblasti dostatečně vzdělávána (Braithwaite et al., 2006). Tato bakalářská práce řeší problematiku daňové gramotnosti studentů středních škol. Úroveň daňové gramotnosti mladé generace je nedostačující, proto je důležité, aby studenti už na střední škole získali daňové znalosti, které budou schopni využít v praxi a uměli tak optimalizovat svou daňovou povinnost (Barbic, 2007, Blechová & Sobotkovičová, 2013, Machová, Šeben & Kútna, 2019). Cílem práce je zjistit úroveň daňové gramotnosti studentů třetích a čtvrtých ročníků středních škol ve městě Ústí nad Labem, za účelem odhalení oblasti, která je pro studenty nejvíce problematická. Cílem je také poukázat na schopnosti studentů orientovat se v daňovém přiznání daně z příjmů fyzických osob a jejich zdatnost optimalizovat svou daňovou povinnost. Vyhodnocení probíhalo na základě dotazníkového šetření u 800 respondentů. Za pomoci statistických metod byly testovány hypotézy. V uceleném pohledu tato práce napomáhá poodhalit problematické oblasti daňových znalostí studentů a zjistit, zda jsou dostatečně připraveni ke vstupu na pracovní trh nejen teoreticky, ale i prakticky.

Abstract:

In personal and financial planning, the tax knowledge is an important aspect (Saad, 2015). From the studies that discuss tax knowledge of young people also known as Generation Z, it is apparent that only 40% is tax literate (Machová, Šeben & Kútna 2019). It is therefore very important for the current generation to be sufficiently educated in this segment. (Braithwaite et al., 2006). This bachelor's thesis studies the problematics of secondary school students and their tax literacy. The level of tax literacy of the younger generation is lacking, that is why it is important for the students at secondary school to get all the information necessary, so they can use it in practice and so they can optimize their tax duty (Barbic, 2007, Blechová & Sobotkičová, 2013, Machová, Šeben & Kútna, 2019). The aim of this thesis is to determine the tax literacy level of the Secondary school students in Ústí nad Labem in order to find out which segment is the most problematic. The goal is also to point out the ability of students to fill out "daňové přiznání daně z příjmů fyzických osob" (czech tax form) and their ability to optimize their tax duty. The evaluation was done using questionnaire with 800 respondents. Hypotheses were tested with statistical methods. In a complete view this thesis helps discover the problematic parts of tax knowledge of the students a to find out if they are adequately ready to enter the job market not only in theory but also in practice.
