Oxid uhličitý je kľúčová zložka riadiaca základné procesy v karbonátovom krase ako je rozpúšťanie a rast kalcitových speleotém. Za principiálny zdroj krasového CO2 sú považované krasové pôdy. Práve dynamika CO2 v pôdach pod ihličnanmi na krasových územiach bola predmetom štúdia.
