The father-daughter generation conflict in German speaking literature on example of the novel "Mein Vater und andere Betrüger" by Milena Moser

Abstract:

The focus of this diploma thesis is the father-daughter generation conflict in German speaking literature. The question is, which role in life of a daughter engages the father, what is the shape of their relationship like and how is the topic dealt by German writing female authors. The aim of the thesis is to point out the importance of the relationship between fathers and daughters in German speaking literature and to outline the ways of processing the topic. The crucial part is formed by the analysis of the novel Mein Vater und andere Betrüger by the contemporary Swiss author Milena Moser. The analysis focuses primarily on the relationship of the father and his daughter and on the aftermath of the father´s behaviour, that influences the life of the daughter. The generation gap between the father and his daughter is analysed also from the perspective of both daughters. Special attention is devoted to individual constituent parts of the father´s relationship to his daughter that are characterized and demonstrated on the extracts of the novel.

Abstract:

Těžištěm diplomové práce je generační konflikt ve vztahu otce a dcery v německy psané literatuře. Zodpovězena má být především otázka, jakou roli v životě dcery zaujímá její otec, jakou podobu může mít vztah mezi otcem a dcerou a jak se s tématem vyrovnávají německy píšící autorky. Cílem práce je poukázat na důležitost vztahu otce a dcery v německy psané ženské literatuře a nastínit způsoby uchopení tohoto tématu. Stěžejní částí je přitom analýza románu Min Vater nud andere Betrüger současné švýcarské autorky Mileny Moser. Analýza je zaměřena především na vztah otce a jeho dcery a na důsledky otcova jednání, které ovlivňují dceřin život. Generační konflikt mezi otcem a dcerou je přitom zachycen také z perspektivy obou jeho dcer. Zvláštní pozornost je věnována jednotlivým složkám otcova vztahu k dceři, které jsou blíže charakterizovány a podloženy ukázkami z románu.
