Gender Stereotypes in Primary Schools

Abstract:

Bakalářská práce se zabývá genderovými stereotypy ve vzdělávání. Genderová problematika patří v současné době mezi často diskutovaná témata. Cílem této práce je přispět k porozumění této problematice prostřednictvím zkoumání vnímání genderu u dětí navštěvujících základní školy. Práce se soustředí na zodpovězení otázky, zda a do jaké míry jsou žáci a žákyně základních škol pod vlivem genderových stereotypů běžně rozšířených v širší společnosti. Práce taktéž sleduje přítomnost genderových stereotypů souvisejících s otázkami vzdělávání a profesní orientace. V teoretické části jsou vymezeny ústřední pojmy "gender" a "genderové stereotypy" a představeny některé základní sociologické koncepce týkající se problematiky genderu ve vzdělávání a v procesu socializace. Empirická část práce se opírá o vlastní kvalitativní výzkum, který byl realizován formou ohniskových skupin se žáky a žákyněmi 9. tříd základní školy. V závěru práce jsou výzkumná zjištění vyhodnocena, interpretována a vztažena k teoretickému rámci práce.

Abstract:

The bachelor thesis deals with gender stereotypes in education. Gender issues are currently one of the most frequently discussed topics. This work aims to contribute to the understanding of this issue by examining the perception of gender in children attending primary schools. The work focuses on answering the question of whether and to what extent primary school students are under the influence of gender stereotypes commonly prevalent in the wider society. The work will also monitor the presence of gender stereotypes related to issues of education and professional orientation. The theoretical part defines the key concepts of "gender" and "gender stereotypes" and introduces some basic sociological concepts related to gender issues in education and in the process of socialization. The empirical part of the work is based on my own qualitative research, which was carried out in the form of focus groups interviews with pupils in the 9th grade of primary school. In the last section of the work, my research findings are evaluated, interpreted, and related to the theoretical framework.
