Social construction of masculinity in social work with the family

Abstract:

Cílem diplomové práce je zjistit, jak muži sociální pracovníci konstruují svou maskulinitu v sociální práci s rodinou. Práce je členěna na dvě části - teoretickou a výzkumnou. V teoretické části je vymezen sociální konstrukcionismus, gender se zaměřením na konstrukci maskulinity v sociální práci a následně kapitola zaměřující se na sociální práci, osobností předpoklady sociálního pracovníka a možnostmi pomoci a podpory rodinám. Výzkumná část se zabývá odpovědí na hlavní výzkumnou otázku: Jak je maskulinita konstruována v kontextu sociální práce s rodinou sociálními pracovníky? Výzkumná část je realizována pomocí kvalitativní výzkumné strategie s využitím polostrukturovaných rozhovorů. Výzkum ukázal, že konstrukci maskulinity výrazně ovlivňují genderové normy, očekávání a stereotypy, což má významný vliv na to, jak se muži ve své roli sociálních pracovníků chovají, jak vnímají svou práci a jak jsou vnímáni ostatními. Genderové role mohou vést k reprodukci nerovností, marginalizaci určitých skupin klientů a omezení možností sociálních pracovníků poskytovat efektivní a kvalitní služby. Byly navrhnuty možnosti pro změnu a transformaci těchto konstrukcí, které by mohly vést k větší inkluzi, spravedlnosti a efektivitě v práci s rodinou.

Abstract:

The aim of the diploma thesis is to explore how male social workers construct their masculinity in social work with families. The thesis is divided into two parts - theoretical and research. The theoretical part defines social constructionism, gender focusing on the construction of masculinity in social work, followed by a chapter focusing on social work, the personality traits of social workers, and possibilities for helping and supporting families. The research part addresses the main research question: How is masculinity constructed in the context of social work with families by social workers? The research part is conducted using a qualitative research strategy with semi-structured interviews. Research has shown that the construction of masculinity is significantly influenced by gender norms, expectations, and stereotypes, which has a significant impact on how men behave in their roles as social workers, how they perceive their work, and how they are perceived by others. Gender roles can lead to the reproduction of inequalities, the marginalization of certain groups of clients, and the limitation of social workers' ability to provide effective and quality services. Options for changing and transforming these constructions have been proposed, which could lead to greater inclusivity, justice, and effectiveness in working with families.
