The attitudes of young people towards marriage

Abstract:

Tato bakalářská práce se zabývá zkoumáním postojů lidí ve vynořující se dospělosti k manželství. Hlavní snahou bylo v návaznosti na teoretický rámec uskutečnit výzkum, který bude zkoumat vztahy mezi postoji k manželství a různými faktory, jako například pohlaví, věk, náboženské vyznání a míra otevřenosti vůči zkušenosti. Celkem se výzkumu zúčastnilo 345 respondentů ve věku od 18 do 25 let. Výzkum využívá metodiku dotazníku složenou ze standardizované škály z inventáře NEO-FFI, Otevřenost vůči zkušenosti (Hřebíčková & Urbánek, 2001), dále z vybraných otázek z inventáře od CVVM (2020) a dalších doprovodných otázek, které byly administrovány prostřednictvím online platforem. Výsledky analýzy prokázaly statisticky významné souvislosti mezi postoji k manželství a náboženským vyznáním u lidí ve vynořující se dospělosti. Bylo zjištěno, že lidé s náboženským vyznáním mají kladnější postoj k instituci manželství než lidé bez náboženského vyznání. Tento výzkum také ukázal, že muži ve vynořující se dospělosti mají kladnější postoj k manželství než ženy. V kontextu otevřenosti vůči zkušenosti nebyla nalezena statisticky významná souvislost s postoji k manželství. Stejně tak v tomto výzkumu na postoje k manželství neměl vliv ani věk respondentů. V rámci této práce bylo také analyzováno, jaké pojmy se lidem ve vynořující se dospělosti asociují s pojmem manželství. Analýza frekvence výskytu jednotlivých slov ukázala, že nejčastějším slovem, jenž se lidem ve vynořující se dospělosti asociuje s pojmem manželství, je pojem láska. Dalšími nejčastěji asociovanými pojmy byly slova: závazek, rodina, důvěra a svatba. Toto zjištění naplňuje tvrzení, že nejčastějším deklarovaným důvodem pro vstup do manželství je láska.

Abstract:

This bachelor's thesis explores the attitudes of emerging adults towards marriage. The primary objective, grounded in a theoretical framework, was to conduct a study investigating the relationships between attitudes towards marriage and various factors such as gender, age, religious beliefs, and openness to experience. A total of 345 respondents aged 18 to 25 participated in the study. The research utilized a questionnaire methodology composed of a standardized scale from the NEO-FFI inventory, Openness to Experience (Hřebíčková & Urbánek, 2001), selected questions from the CVVM inventory (2020), and additional supplementary questions administered via online platforms. The analysis results demonstrated statistically significant correlations between attitudes towards marriage and religious beliefs among emerging adults. It was found that individuals with religious beliefs tend to have a more positive attitude towards the institution of marriage compared to those without religious affiliations. The research also revealed that men in emerging adulthood have a more favorable attitude towards marriage than women. In the context of openness to experience, no statistically significant relationship was found with attitudes towards marriage. Likewise, the age of the respondents did not influence their attitudes towards marriage. This work also analyzed the concepts that emerging adults associate with the term marriage. The frequency analysis of individual words showed that 'love' is the most commonly associated term with marriage among emerging adults. Other frequently associated terms included 'commitment,' 'family,' 'trust,' and 'wedding.' This finding supports the assertion that the most commonly declared reason for entering into marriage is love.
