The issue of the posttraumatic growth in children and adolescent with a diagnosis diabetes type 1

Abstract:

Cíl: Hlavním cílem práce bylo zjistit pozitivní a negativní důsledky nemoci na děti a dospívající s diagnózou diabetes mellitus 1. typu. Metodika: Výzkumný soubor tvořilo 102 dětí a dospívajících ve věku od 12 do 18 let s diagnózou diabetes mellitus 1. typu. Výzkum probíhal formou dotazníkového šetření, jež bylo realizováno v období od listopadu 2020 do února 2021 v ambulancích dětské diabetologie. Pro potřeby výzkumu byly využity standardizované dotazníky posttraumatického rozvoje pro děti - Posttraumatic Growth Inventory for Children (PTGI-C) a způsobu zvládání Ways of Coping (WOC). Výsledky: Na základě tohoto šetření bylo zjištěno, že způsoby vyrovnávání částečně souvisí s následným posttraumatickým rozvojem u dětí a dospívajících s diabetem 1. typu. Konkrétně byl nalezen významný vztah mezi posttraumatickým rozvojem a následujícími copingovými strategiemi: konfrontační zvládání, distancování, sebeovládání, vyhledání sociální opory, plánované řešení problému, pozitivní přehodnocení. Dále bylo prokázáno, že věk dětí má vliv na jejich úroveň copingu, konkrétně nejvíce jednotlivé copingové styly využívaly děti ve věku 15let, nejméně pak děti mladší 14let. Nebyl prokázán rozdíl mezi copingem u dívek a chlapců, zároveň nebyl zjištěn rozdíl úrovně posttraumatického rozvoje s ohledem na věk respondentů a jejich pohlaví. Závěr: Na základě zjištěných dat se ukazuje, že posttraumatický rozvoj u dětí s diagnózou diabetes mellitus 1. typu je možný, a ačkoli nesouvisí s pohlavím, či věkem dětí, byl prokázán vztah posttraumatického rozvoje s využívanými copingovými strategiemi.

Abstract:

Objective: The main objective of the work was to introduce positive and negative consequences of the disease on children and adolescents diagnosed with type 1 diabetes mellitus. Methodology: The research group consisted of 102 children and adolescents aged 12 to 18 years with a diagnosis of type 1 diabetes mellitus. The research took the form of a questionnaire survey, which was carried out in the period from November 2020 to February 2021 in the outpatient clinics of paediatric diabetology. Standardized questionnaires of Posttraumatic Growth Inventory for Children (PTGI-C) and Ways of Coping (WOC) were used for research purposes. Outcomes: Based on the research conducted, it was discovered that the ways of coping are partly linked to the subsequent post-traumatic development in children and adolescents with type 1 diabetes. In particular, a significant relationship was found between post-traumatic development and the following coping scales: confrontation, distancing, self-control, seeking social support, planful problem solving, and positive reappraisal. Moreover, it was revealed that the age of children has an effect on their level of coping, specifically the most individual coping styles were used by children aged 15 years, the least then by children under 14 years. There was no difference found between coping in girls and boys, and no difference in the level of post-traumatic development was uncovered with respect to the age of the respondents and their gender.
