Ethnocentrism and Other Perception: The Current Role of Non-profit Sector in the Fight Against Racism

Abstract:

Cílem této bakalářské práce je teoreticky vysvětlit pojmy etnocentrismus a kulturní relativismus, jejichž obsahové koncepty se vzájemně vylučují, a dále vymezit sféry jejich zájmu a přiblížit význam termínů, které s nimi souvisejí, např. multikulturalismus, kultura a etnicita. Etnocentrismus neboli vnímání cizího je úzce spjat s rasismem. V návaznosti na to se část textu zabývá i tímto hojně užívaným pojmem a dokládá jej na konkrétním příkladu židovské genocidy během druhé světové války, přičemž se pokouší stručně vystihnout její příčiny, průběh a důsledky. Závěrečná část stati pojednává o současné roli veřejných institucí a neziskových organizací, které si dávají za cíl bojovat proti rasismu a předcházet rizikům kulturní rozmanitosti v moderní společnosti.

Abstract:

Aim of this theoretical bachelor thesis is to explain the concepts of ethnocentrism and cultural relativism, whose contents are mutually exclusive, and further define the sphere of their interests and explain meaning of terms associated with them, such as multiculturalism, culture and ethnicity. Ethnocentrism or foreign perception is closely linked to racism. In relation to this part of the text deals with this concept and illustrates it on a specific example of the Jewish genocide during World War II, while attempting to briefly describe its causes, course and consequences. The final part of the work discusses the current role of public institutions and non-profit organizations that aim to combat racism and prevent the risks of cultural diversity in modern society.
