The business and cultural specifics of Mexico

Abstract:

Tato bakalářská práce se zabývá kulturními a obchodními specifiky Mexika. Hlavním cílem práce je vyzdvihnout možné dopady kulturních specifik na obchodní jednání v Mexiku. První kapitola se zabývá obecnými informacemi o Mexiku a všeobecnou charakteristikou země, konkrétně geografií, demografií, historickým vývojem, vnitřní a zahraniční politikou. Analyzuji zde základní makroekonomické ukazatele a jednotlivé hospodářské sektory. Dále se zaměřuji na zahraniční obchod Mexika. Ve druhé kapitole se zabývám mexickou kulturou, jejími specifiky a blíže pojednávám o kulturních dimenzí podle Geerta Hofstedeho. Třetí kapitola je věnována obchodnímu jednání a etiketě. Součástí kapitoly jsou i doporučení pro obchodníky, kteří by chtěli začít v Mexiku obchodovat. Ve čtvrté kapitole blíže specifikuji česko-mexické obchodní vztahy, jejich vývoj i současnou obchodní bilanci mezi zeměmi. Součástí kapitoly je také praktická část práce, která zahrnuje dotazníkového šetření, kterého se zúčastnili zástupci společností, mající zkušenosti s mexickým obchodním partnerem.

Abstract:

This bachelor thesis deals with the cultural and business specifics of Mexico. The main objective of the work is to highlight the possible impacts of cultural specifics on business negotiations in Mexico. The first chapter deals with general information about Mexico and the general characteristics of the country, specifically with geography, demographics, historical development, internal and foreign policy. I analyze basic macroeconomic indicators and economic sectors here. I also focus on foreign trade in Mexico. In the second chapter I deal with Mexican culture, its specifics and the cultural dimensions by Geert Hofstede. The third chapter deals with business negotiation and etiquette. Part of the chapter includes recommendations for merchants who would like to start trading in Mexico. In the fourth chapter I specify the Czech-Mexican business relations, their development and current trade balance between countries. Part of the chapter is also a practical part of the work which includes a questionnaire survey attended by representatives of companies having experience with a Mexican business partner.
