Už od roku 2002 je Turecku voličsky nejúspěšnější stranou Strana spravedlnosti a rozvoje (AKP), která je v doma i zahraničí považovaná za více či méně islamistickou. Since 2002 Justice and Development Party (AKP) is electorally the most successful party despite being considered more or less Islamist both in Turkey and in abroad. In my opinion the change of Islamist parties’ rhetoric was one of the reasons of such success of political Islam in a country, which declares secularism one of its fundamental principles.
