Psychological aspects of work in home office regime in a corporate environment in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic

Abstract:

Tato diplomová práce se zabývá vybranými psychologickými aspekty práce v permanentním režimu home office na pozadí pandemie COVID-19. Výzkumu se zúčastnilo 123 respondentů ve věku 20–44 let pracujících v mezinárodním korporátu. Hlavním cílem bylo prozkoumat vztahy mezi subjektivně vnímaným zdravím, work-life balance, pracovní angažovaností, pracovní spokojeností a self-efficacy; taktéž zjistit, jestli existují rozdíly v úrovni těchto proměnných v závislosti na pohlaví, typu pozice a oddělení. Dále jsme se soustředili na identifikování nejdůležitějších prediktorů subjektivně vnímaného zdraví. Mezi další cíle patřilo porovnání subjektivní úrovně daných proměnných v současné situaci a v předpandemické době, na nějž jsme navázali tematickou analýzou vnímaných důvodů změn v této úrovni. Posledním cílem práce byla tematická analýza největších negativních a pozitivních změn, které přinesla pandemická situace do pracovního prostředí a života obecně. Použitými nástroji byly General Health Questionnaire – GHQ-12, Work-life balance Questionnaire, Utrecht Work Engagement Scale – UWES-17, job satisfaction survey – JSS a General Self-efficacy Scale – GSES; pro kvalitativní část jsme využili otevřené otázky. Byly objeveny statisticky významné vztahy mezi proměnnými pracovní spokojenost, pracovní angažovanost a work-life balance; pracovní angažovanost navíc fungovala jako mediátor vztahu work-life balance a pracovní spokojenosti. Taktéž byly objeveny statisticky významné vztahy mezi subjektivně vnímaným zdravím, work-life balance a self-efficacy, přičemž work-life balance mělo funkci mediátoru ve vztahu self-efficacy a subjektivně vnímaného zdraví. V úrovni vybraných aspektů práce nebyly objeveny rozdíly mezi muži a ženami či v závislosti na typu pozice, jediný rozdíl byl nalezen v míře self-efficacy v závislosti na počtu let ve firmě. Nejvýznamnějšími prediktory subjektivně vnímaného zdraví byly work-life balance a pracovní angažovanost. Pro kvalitativní část byly vytvořeny tabulky s tematickou analýzou obsahující zanalyzovaná témata a faktory.

Abstract:

This diploma thesis deals with selected psychological aspects of work in a permanent home office regime in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic. This research involved 123 respondents, aged 20–44 years, all employees of an international corporate. The main goal was to explore the relationships between perceived general health, work-life balance, work engagement, job satisfaction and self-efficacy; also to find if there are differences in the levels of variables depending on gender, type of position and department of work. We also focused on identifying the most important predictors of perceived general health. Other goals included a comparison of the subjectively perceived levels of the variables in the current situation and in the pre-pandemic period, as well as a thematic analysis of the reasons for changes in their level. The last goal of the thesis was a thematic analysis of the biggest positive and negative changes brought by the pandemic situation, both in the work environment and lives in general. The following questionnaires were used: General Health Questionnaire – GHQ-12, Work-life balance Questionnaire, Utrecht Work Engagement Scale – UWES-17, job satisfaction survey – JSS a General Self-efficacy Scale – GSES; for the qualitative part we also used open-ended questions. Work-life balance, work engagement and job satisfaction were found to be significantly related to each other. The relationship between work-life balance and job satisfaction was moreover mediated by work engagement. Statistically significant relationships between perceived general health, work-life balance and self-efficacy were also discovered, with work-life balance as a mediator in the relationship between self-efficacy and general health. No differences were found between gender or between the different types of roles at work. The only difference was found in the level of self-efficacy depending on the number of years in the company. The most important predictors of perceived general health were work-life balance and work engagement. For the qualitative part, tables with thematic analysis were created containing the analyzed topics and factors.
