Gender differences and their influence on EFL learners´ perceptual learning style preferences in vocabulary learning

Abstract:

The author attempts to explore gender and its possible influences on learning. The work aims to find a correlation between gender and perceptual learning styles, and its potential effect upon students´ vocabulary learning. The theoretical part focuses on gender differences affecting language learning, the concept of perceptual learning styles and basic aspects of vocabulary learning and teaching. The thesis offers analyses of the reasons why male and female students show different preferences in respect to their perceptual learning styles. In the practical part, the author investigates perceptual style preferences of the students and implements vocabulary presentations that activate various perceptual learning styles of both males and females. This paper also discovers opinions of male and female students on vocabulary learning that includes different sensory stimuli.

Abstract:

Práce se skládá z teoretické části, která poskytuje osvětlení genderu a jeho spojitost s percepčními učebními styly. Zároveň představuje základní principy týkající se učení slovní zásobě, ke kterým se práce vztahuje. Praktická část je zaměřena na výzkum, pomocí něhož byly poznatky a principy zmíněné v teoretické části přeneseny do praxe. Účelem výzkumu je identifikovat percepční učební styly studentů, dále potvrdit, jestli prezentace slov, která aktivuje percepční styly studentů, má na studenty pozitivní vliv při učení. Práce se také zabývá názory studentů ohledně výuky slovní zásoby, která obsahuje prvky podněcující studentovy percepční styly.
