The relationship of emotional intelligence and motivation of students to study psychology

Abstract:

Cílem této práce je analyzovat motivaci studentů psychologie ke studiu psychologie v diferenciaci na egocentrické a allocentrické motivy. Zároveň také mapuje úroveň globální rysové emoční inteligence a její vztah k motivaci ke studiu u studentů psychologie. Teoretická část je rozdělena na tři části. První část se zabývá úlohou motivace v osobnosti studenta psychologie. Druhá část se zaměřuje na emoční inteligenci a její význam v osobnosti studenta psychologie. Třetí část je věnována profilu studenta psychologie. Empirická část popisuje náš výzkumný soubor, který tvořilo 94 studentů prvních a druhých ročníků jednooborového bakalářského studia psychologie ze čtyř univerzit v ČR. Studentům byl administrován on-line formou Dotazník motivace a Test globální rysové emoční inteligence TEIQue-SF. Výsledky tohoto šetření v celkovém skóre ukázaly mírnou převahu egocentricky orientovaných motivů. V testu rysové emoční inteligence studenti psychologie dosahují vyšších hodnot než normální populace, ale žádný vztah mezi motivací ke studiu psychologie a rysovou emoční inteligencí nebyl nalezen.

Abstract:

The aim of this thesis is to analyze the motivation of students to study psychology in differentiation into egocentric and allocentric motives. Thesis also maps the level of global feature emotional intelligence and its relationship to motivation to study at students of psychology. The theoretical part is divided into three parts. The first part deals with the role of motivation in the personality of a student of psychology The second part focuses on emotional intelligence and its importance in the personality of a student of psychology. The third part is devoted to the profile of a student of psychology. The empirical part describes our research group, which is formed by 94 students of the first and second years of single-subject bachelor's psychology from four universities in the Czech Republic. The students were administered on-line via the Questionnaire of Motivation and the Global Feature Emotional Intelligence Test TEIQue-SF. The results of this survey in the overall score showed a slight predominance of egocentric-oriented motives. In the Feature Emotional Intelligence Test, students of psychology achieve higher values than the normal population, but no relationship between motivation to study psychology and feature emotional intelligence has been found.
