Francis Sparshott's Aesthetics of Dance

Abstract:

Bakalářská diplomová práce „Estetika tance v díle Francise Sparshotta“ se věnuje zdokumentování málo probádané oblasti umění – estetiky tance jakožto určité formy výrazu využívané již od nepaměti. Práce se zaměřuje na estetiku pohybu jako na významný prvek kultivace lidského těla. Částečně se zaobírá i historií tance, do té míry, nakolik je nutné ji poznat pro hlubší pochopení aspektů dané problematiky. Ve druhé části práce je analyzováno dílo Francise Sparshotta. Hlouběji je rozebráno dílo The Missing Art of Dance s detailnějším pohledem na názor Hegela, ale i dílo Off the Ground: First Steps to a Philosophical Consideration of the Dance a kniha A Measured Pace. Dále je blíže posuzován vztah mezi uměním tance a uměním hudby a důležitost propojení mysli a těla při tanci z pohledu Francise Sparshotta. Práce se snaží zodpovědět otázky: Co je tanec? Je tanec zanedbávaným uměním? Dokáže tanec přispět ke kultivaci našeho těla? Existují nějaká omezení toho, co může tanec vyjadřovat? Na závěr se práce zaměřuje i na současné problémy estetiky tance.

Abstract:

The diploma thesis "Aesthetics of Dance in the work of Francis Sparshott" is dedicated to documenting little explored field of art – aesthetics of dance as a form of expression used since time immemorial. The work focuses on the aesthetics of movement as a significant element of the cultivation of the human body. Partly deals with the history and dance, to the extent that it is necessary to know for a deeper understanding of those aspects of the issue. The second part of the thesis analyses the work of Francis Sparshott. Deeper discussed is the work of The Missing Art of Dance with a detailed view of the opinion of Hegel, but also the work of Off the Ground: First Steps to a Philosophical Consideration of the Dance and the book A Measured Pace. It is also considered the closer relationship between the art of dance and the art of music and the importance of the connection between mind and body in dance from the perspective of Francis Sparshott. The thesis tries to answer the questions: What is dance? Is dance a neglected art? Can dance contribute to the cultivation of our body? Is there any limitation on what dance can express? In conclusion, the thesis deals with contemporary problems of aesthetics of dance.
