Changes of French Orthography in Public Internet Comments

Abstract:

The present master?s thesis aims to explore different forms and changes of the French orthography used in public Internet comments. The first part of the work introduces the relation between the language and the Internet, and it describes the French orthography from both synchronic and diachronic points of view. Next, the thesis deals with the so-called computer-mediated communication (communication médiée par ordinateur), with a special regard to Jacques Anis?s classification of Internet spelling techniques. The practical part analyses the corpus data. Based upon the data-driven analysis, the final part of the work assumes that Facebook comments do not contain remarkable spelling changes and are, as such, rather a standard form of written language production.

Abstract:

Cílem této diplomové práce je zmapovat podoby a proměny francouzského pravopisu ve veřejně přístupných internetových komentářích na dnes nejrozšířenější sociální síti. Úvodní část práce seznamuje čtenáře se vztahem mezi komunikací a internetovým prostředím, následující kapitola stručně popisuje francouzský pravopis ze synchronního i diachronního pohledu. Ve čtvrté kapitole jsou zmíněny základní směry výzkumu tzv. počítačem zprostředkované komunikace (franc. communication médiée par ordinateur, angl. computer-mediated communication), současně je zde uvedena klasifikace pravopisných technik dle Jacquese Anise. Výzkumná část obsahuje popis jazykového korpusu a jeho podrobnou analýzu. Na základě posouzení dat z předkládaného korpusu je patrné, že facebookové komentáře neobsahují závažné pravopisné změny. Lze tedy vyvodit, že pro tento typ písemné komunikace je specifický spíše tradiční, kodifikovaný pravopis.
