Corporate social responsibility in the tobacco industry: focusing on Philip Morris

Abstract:

Tato diplomová práce si klade za cíl zjistit, jak vysokoškolští studenti vnímají aktivity tabákových společností v oblasti CSR. Výzkumné otázky se zabývají účinky dvou CSR programů na vnímaný motiv společnosti Philip Morris. Konkrétně jde o programy související s tabákem a nesouvisející s tabákem. Dále práce zkoumá postoje vysokoškolských studentů ke společnosti Philip Morris a jejich záměry podporovat tuto společnost. Primární data byla pro vlastní výzkum získána dotazníkovým šetřením. Práce je replikací výzkumu proběhlého v roce 2012 v USA a Jižní Koreji. Dalším cílem práce je analyzovat rozdíly v reakcích vysokoškolských studentů na aktivity spadající do oblasti společenské odpovědnosti tabákové společnosti Philip Morris a to mezi mou prací a již proběhlou studií v Jižní Koreji a USA. Výstupem práce je zhodnocení výsledků a zjištění vztahu vysokoškolských studentů k CSR aktivitám společnosti Philip Morris s komentářem jejich možné generalizace pro další organizace ve zkoumaném odvětví.

Abstract:

This thesis aims to find out how university students perceive the CSR activities of tobacco companies. The research questions examine the effects of two CSR programs on the perceived motive of Philip Morris. Specifically, the programs are tobacco-related and non-tobacco-related. In addition, the thesis examines university students' attitudes towards Philip Morris and their attitudes and intentions to support the company. Primary data for the actual research was obtained through a questionnaire survey. The thesis is a replication of research conducted in 2012 in the USA and South Korea. Another aim of the thesis is to analyze the differences in the responses of university students to activities falling under the social responsibility of the tobacco company Philip Morris between my thesis and the already conducted study in South Korea and the USA. The output of the thesis is to evaluate the results and find out the attitude of university students towards the CSR activities of Philip Morris with a comment on their possible generalization to other organizations in the industry under study.
