Questioning of the People with Intellectual Disability

Abstract:

Bakalářská práce se zabývá dotazováním osob s mentálním postižením. Jde o téma aktuální, vzhledem k tomu, že je v dnešní době tendence přenášet rozhodování o svém životě více na samotné osoby s mentálním postižením (dále MP). Dotazování lidí s kognitivním deficitem přináší jistá specifika a na rozhovor je třeba se více připravit. Práce proto shrnuje současné poznatky o dotazování lidí s mentálním postižením a také je doplňuje o empirickou studii, jak jsou lidé s MP schopni vypovídat o pracovních schopnostech. Vzorek tvoří sedm rozhovorů se zaměstnanci s MP z dílny Občanského sdružení V Růžovém sadu. Výpovědi z těchto rozhovorů jsou konfrontovány s informacemi z dokumentů, ze zúčastněného pozorování, z rozhovorů od vedoucího dílny a asistenta a dřívějších rozhovorů prováděných na stejném pracovišti. Osoby s MP ve většině případů dovedly vypovídat o svých pracovních schopnostech a jejich výpovědi byly zakotveny v „realitě“ – nelišily se významně od ostatních zdrojů. Většina osob s mentálním postižením byla schopná posoudit zda pro ně byla práce ze začátku těžká nebo lehká, jestli se v práci stále něčemu novému učí a dokázaly vyjmenovat, co všechno se od nástupu do dílny naučily. Dále byla většina schopná komparace se svými kolegy. Aspirace do budoucna v oblasti práce byly u většiny respondentů realistické – srovnatelné s tím, čeho jsou vzhledem ke svému handicapu schopni. Hlavní potíže, které se při výpovědích vyskytly, byly poplatné neschopnosti respondentů vyvozovat logické vztahy, omezené paměťové kapacitě respondentů, vlivu situačního kontextu na odpovědi, či „únikem“ respondentů z reality, který byl daný například nesprávným výchovným stylem. Tyto potíže se při dotazování projevovaly v podobě nerealistických odpovědí respondentů – jejich odpovědi nebyly slučitelné s informacemi z ostatních zdrojů.

Abstract:

The bachelor’s thesis focused on questioning and interviewing of people with a mental handicap. The issues discussed are of present-day importance because currently there is a trend to shift responsibility of one’s own life to mentally handicapped people themselves. Interviewing people with cognitive deficit brings certain caveats that need to be accounted for by careful preparation before the actual interview. The thesis summarizes the current findings in interviewing of people with mental handicap, and offers an empirical study in which mentally handicapped people are questioned about their work abilities. The study is based on seven interviews with mentally handicapped employees of the workroom “V Růžovém sadu“. Results from nterviews are compared to documents, interview observations, consultations with head of the workroom and his assistant, and past interviews conducted at the same workroom. Employees of the workshop were in most cases capable of talking about their working abilities, and their answers and comments were genuine, i.e. were not different compared to the information obtained from other sources. Most employees were able to assess if the nature of the work was at the beginning too easy or too difficult for them, and if they are still learning new procedures at work. Moreover, they could name all the things they have learned so far, and they were also able in most cases to compare themselves to their colleagues. Future aspirations were evaluated realistically by most respondents based on the handicap level the employees actually had. The main challenges that occurred during the interviews were connected to inability of respondents to deduce logical relationships, limited memory capacity, contextual influence on answers, or escape from reality. These problems were captured in unrealistic answers of the respondents, i.e. the answers were not compatible with information obtained from other sources.
