Contemporary security policy of the United States in Mexico - Initiative Mérida

Abstract:

Práce se zabývá současnou bezpečnostní politikou Spojených států vůči Mexiku se zaměřením na program asistence Iniciativa Mérida. Cílem práce není komplexní analýza Iniciativy ani hodnocení jejích výsledků, zaměří se na zasazení Iniciativy do obecného rámce americké bezpečnostní politiky vůči Mexiku. Práce se snaží dokázat, že Iniciativa nepředstavuje markantní odklon od dlouhodobého trendu americké bezpečnostní politiky a je tak spíše kvantitativním navýšením amerických snah. Práce se tak snaží především o analýzu strategie Iniciativy a její potenciální dopady na výsledky programu. Cílem práce je také poukázat na neefektivní složky dlouhodobé americké bezpečnostní strategie.

Abstract:

The work deals with the contemporary security policy of the United States towards Mexico while concentrating on the assistence program called Merida Initiative. The aim of the work is not a komplex analyses of the Initiative or evaluation of its results, it concentrates on placing the Initiative in a broader framework of american security policy towards Mexico. The work aims to prove that the Initiative does not represent a prominent change from the long-term trends of the american security policy in the region and as such is rather a quantitative increase in american efforts. The work aids above all to analyse the strategy of the Initiative and its potential impact on the results of the program. The aim is also to point out some ineffective components of the long-term american security strategy.
