The Influence of professional orientation on attitudes towards people with mental disabilities

Abstract:

Cílem práce bude zjistit závislost mezi profesním zaměřením dotazovaných a jejich postoji k lidem s mentálním postižením. Teoretická část se zaměří na vymezení pojmu mentální postižení, jeho druhy, charakteristiku a možnostmi integrace této skupiny lidí do společnosti. Další část bude pojednávat o diskriminaci a předsudcích vůči lidem s mentálním postižením. Dále se zaměřím na pomáhající profese a jejich vymezení. V empirické části bude zkoumán vztah mezi profesním zaměřením dotazovaných osob a jejich postoji k lidem s mentálním postižením. Výzkum bude proveden pomocí dotazníkového šetření, jehož cílem bude zjistit rozdíl v postojích osob z oborů pomáhajících profesí a osob z jiných oborů. Součástí výzkumu bude i nastínění rozdílů v postojích pracovníků pomáhajících profesí mezi jednotlivými obory. V další části výzkumu provedu rozhovor s lidmi s mentálním postižením, ve kterém se budu zabývat jejich zkušenostmi s diskriminujícím chováním okolí. Zjištěné poznatky mohou pomoci rozšířit povědomí o této problematice a přiblížit ji také z pohledu lidí s mentálním postižením.

Abstract:

The aim of the work will be to find out what is the dependence between the professional orientation of the respondents and their attitude towards people with mental disability. In the theoretical part I will deal with the definition of mental disability, its characteristics and the possibilities of integration of this group of people into society. The next part will deal with discrimination and prejudice against people with mental disability. I will also deal with helping professions and their definition. In the empirical part I will deal with the relationship between the professional orientation of the interviewed persons and their attitude to people with mental disability. The research will be carried out using a questionnaire survey, the aim of which will be to find out the difference in the attitudes of people from the fields of helping professions and people from other fields. The research will also include the outline of the differences in attitudes of workers helping professions between individual fields. In the next part of the research, an interview with people with mental disability will be conducted, in which I will deal with their experiences with discrimination and prejudice. The findings can help to raise awareness of this issue and bring it closer from the perspective of people with mental disability.
