Evaluation of pain in intensive care

Abstract:

Bolest v intenzivní péči se vyskytuje velmi často a přináší s sebou strach a úzkost. Její hodnocení je nedílnou součástí práce všeobecných sester na jednotkách intenzivní péče, protože neléčená nebo špatně hodnocená bolest zvyšuje riziko psychologických a fyziologických následků, které pro pacienty v traumatickém stavu mohou být i fatální. Hlavním cílem této práce bylo zjistit jaké hodnotící nástroje k měření bolesti využívá nelékařský zdravotnický personál na oddělení intenzivní péče. Průzkum byl proveden pomocí kvantitativní metody formou dotazníkového šetření. Celkový počet respondentů bylo 80. Výsledná data od respondentů byla vyhodnocována a zpracována do grafů v programu MS Office Excel. Porovnání výsledků této práce s ostatními pracemi je v diskusi na konci práce. Výsledky dotazníkového šetření ukázaly, že nelékařský zdravotnický personál v oblasti intenzivní péče nejčastěji používají vizuální analogovou škálu, nicméně jejich znalosti o jiných hodnotících škálách pro bolest jsou i přesto velmi dobré. Touto prací bych ráda přispěla k většímu využívání nových a odbornějších hodnotících škál pro bolest a celkově zvýšit pozornost ohledně bolesti.

Abstract:

Pain is something that is frequently seen in the unit of intensive care, mostly accompanied with fear and anxiety. Untreated and poorly assessed pain increases the risk of psychological and physiological consequences which can be fatal for traumatised patients, that is why it is important to recognise and address this issue at an early stage which is an integral work of general nurses in intensive care units. The main aim of this thesis was to determine what assessments tools are used by non-medical sanitary staff in the intensive care units to measure pain. The survey was conducted using a quantitative method in the form of a questionnaire survey. The total number of respondents was 80. The resulting data were evaluated in MS Office Excel and then were processed into graphs Comparison of the results of this work with other works is in the discussion at the end of this thesis. As shown by the results of the questionnaire survey, the visual analogue scale is the most frequently used tool by non-medical sanitary staff in critical care. However, their overall knowledge of other pain rating scales is very good. With this thesis I would like to contribute to a greater use of new and more expert pain rating scales and to increase the overall attention regarding pain.
