Analysis of unemployment in the Most district 2009-2021

Abstract:

Cílem diplomové práce je kvantifikovat souvislost vybraných faktorů a míry nezaměstnanosti v okrese Most v kontextu teorie rovnováhy a teorie nerovnováhy. Zaprvé je v práci provedena korelační analýza, která srovnává data okresu Most s předpoklady odborných studií v teoretické části práce. Zadruhé jsou na základě časové řady v letech 2009–2021 metodou nejmenších čtverců odhadnuty dva regresní modely. Jako významné se projevily faktory minimální mzdy, HDP na obyvatele, počtu obyvatel ve věku 55–64 let v populaci a migrace. Všechny tyto determinanty vykazují negativní vztah s nezaměstnaností. Výsledky regresní analýzy naznačují platnost teorie rovnováhy, která klade důraz na strukturální faktory, které jsou příčinou rozdílů v místní míře nezaměstnanosti. Na základě výsledků práce doporučuje tvůrcům hospodářské politiky se zaměřit na strukturální faktory a faktory strany nabídky, které by mohly zlepšit situaci na trhu práce ve zkoumaném okrese.

Abstract:

The aim of the thesis is to quantify the relationship between selected factors and the unemployment rate in the Most district in the context of the theory of equilibrium and the theory of disequilibrium. Firstly, the thesis performs a correlation analysis that compares the data of Most district with the assumptions of professional studies in the theoretical part of the thesis. Second, two regression models are estimated based on the time series from 2009-2021 using the least squares method. The factors of minimum wage, GDP per capita, number of 55–64-year-olds in the population and migration are found to be significant. All these determinants show a negative relationship with unemployment. The results of the regression analysis suggest the validity of equilibrium theory, which emphasizes structural factors that account for differences in local unemployment rates. Based on the results, the paper recommends economic policy makers to focus on structural and supply side factors that could improve the labour market situation in the study district.
