Stress management in vocational high school students

Abstract:

Tato závěrečná práce se zaměřovala na zvládání stresu u studentů středních odborných škol. V teoretické části byla podrobně popsána problematika stresu, jeho projevy a reakce, druhy stresu, stresory ve školním prostředí a stresory u adolescentů, a různé copingové strategie. Praktická část zahrnovala dotazníkové šetření provedené na Střední odborné škole civilního letectví Praha-Ruzyně. Dotazníky byly distribuovány mezi studenty a obsahovaly otázky týkající se věku, pohlaví, oboru studia (technický nebo ekonomický), situací ve škole způsobujících stres, metod zvládání stresu, přístupu ke školním zdrojům nebo programům na zvládání stresu, názoru na podporu školy při zvládání stresu, pocitu přetížení školními povinnostmi a emocí po překonání stresových situací. Výsledky ukázaly, že žáci měli nejvíce stresu ze zkoušek a testů, přičemž většina se učila méně než 5 hodin týdně. Někteří studenti, zejména z technických oborů, zažívali stres i mimo školu. Muži ve věku 19 let zvládali stres lépe než jejich vrstevníci. V otevřené otázce studenti navrhovali, aby učitelé snížili tlak na studenty a více se věnovali tématu stresu a jeho zvládání prostřednictvím přednášek nebo kurzů. Studenti také uvedli, že by ocenili více podpory a porozumění ze strany učitelů při zvládání stresových situací. Závěrem bylo zjištěno, že efektivní zvládání stresu je klíčové pro zlepšení akademického výkonu a celkové pohody studentů.

Abstract:

This final thesis focused on stress management among students of secondary vocational schools. The theoretical part provided a detailed description of the issue of stress, its manifestations and reactions, types of stress, stressors in the school environment, stressors among adolescents, and various coping strategies. The practical part included a questionnaire survey conducted at the Secondary School of Civil Aviation in Prague-Ruzyně. Questionnaires were distributed among students and included questions regarding age, gender, field of study (technical or economic), situations at school causing stress, methods of stress management, access to school resources or programs for stress management, opinions on school support in managing stress, feelings of being overwhelmed by school duties, and emotions after overcoming stressful situations. The results showed that students experienced the most stress from exams and tests, with most studying less than 5 hours per week. Some students, especially from technical fields, experienced stress outside of school as well. Males aged 19 managed stress better than their peers. In an open-ended question, students suggested that teachers should reduce pressure on students and focus more on the topic of stress and its management through lectures or courses. Students also indicated that they would appreciate more support and understanding from teachers in managing stressful situations. In conclusion, it was found that effective stress management is crucial for improving academic performance and overall student well-being.
