Convergence of EU countries during the recent crisis

Abstract:

This thesis deals with the convergence of the EU in the period of the crisis. The aim of this work is based on an analysis of selected indicators of selected EU economies to assess degree of nominal and real convergence in the context of integration trends and the impact of the global crisis. In this work we pay attention to the theoretical definition of convergence in the context of monetary integration, addressing each of the criteria of optimum currency areas, benefits and costs of monetary integration, characteristic of real and nominal convergence as a macroeconomic indicator of the economy and specifically Maastricht convergence criteria and the Stability and Growth Pact. This work also analyzes the crisis and its impact on convergence, the individual functions of the state in terms of crisis and models of financial crises. By analyzing a closer we approach the nominal and real convergence V4 economies within the EU in the context of the crisis, which specifically compares the convergence of Slovakia and the Czech economy with the EU, the analysis of real convergence criteria V4 and analyze the nominal convergence criteria. In conclusion, the results of analysis and various measures conducive to the performance of the analyzed economies.

Abstract:

Diplomová práca sa zaoberá konvergenciou krajín EÚ v období dosahov krízy. Cieľom práce je na základe analýzy vybraných ukazovateľov vývoja vybraných ekonomík EÚ zhodnotiť mieru nominálnej a reálnej konvergencie v kontexte integračných tendencií a dopadu globálnej krízy. V práci venujeme pozornosť teoretickému vymedzeniu konvergencie v kontexte menovej integrácie, plnením jednotlivých kritérií optimálnej menovej oblasti, prínosmi a nákladmi menovej integrácie, charakteristikou reálnej a nominálnej konvergencie ako makroekonomického ukazovateľa ekonomiky, konkrétne Maastrichtskou zmluvou a konvergenčnými kritériami a Paktom stability a rastu. Práca ďalej rozoberá krízu a jej vplyv na konvergenciu, jednotlivé funkcie štátu z pohľadu krízy a modely finančných kríz. Analýzou si bližšie priblížime nominálnu a reálnu konvergenciu ekonomík krajín V4 v rámci EÚ v kontexte dosahov krízy, kde konkrétne porovnáva konvergenciu slovenskej a českej ekonomiky s krajinami EÚ, analýzou kritérií reálnej konvergencie V4 a analýzou plnenia kritérií nominálnej konvergencie. V závere zhodnotíme výsledky analýzy a jednotlivé opatrenia vedúce k zvýšeniu výkonnosti analyzovaných ekonomík.
