Nutrition of children with epidermolysis bulosa congenita

Abstract:

Epidermolysis bullosa congenita (EBC) je vzácné dermatologické onemocnění posti-hující kůži a sliznici pacientů. Hlavním cílem studie bylo zjistit energetickou hodnotu stravy a zastoupení jednotlivých živin, minerálních látek a vitaminů u dětí s epidermolysis bullosa congenita ve věku 1 – 18 let. Výsledná zjištění jsou založena na rozboreh dat 30,6 % vzorku dětských pacientů s nemocí EBC v České republice. Použita byla objektivní i subjektivní pozorování u dvou forem této nemoci s rozdílnými klinickými projevy (EBD, EBS). Dětských pacientů s podvýživou bylo v celém sledovaném souboru 71 % (EBD 92 % a EBS 43 %). Těžká podvýživa byla zjištěna pouze u dystrofické formy epidermolysis bulossa congenita (EBD) a to u 42 % dětí s podvýživou. Jeden dětský pacient (EBS) byl schopen pokrýt svoji energetickou potřebu pouze stravou, jeden pacient (EBD) stravou a sippingem. Kombinace zvýšených požadavků na výživu pacientů s onemocněním EBC a sníženého příjmu potravy vlivem nemoci zapříčiňuje zdlouhavé hojení ran a způsobuje podvýživu u těchto dětí.

Abstract:

Epidermolysis bullosa congenita (EBC) is a rare dermatological disease affecting patients’ skin and mucosa. The major objective of this study was to determine the energy value of diet and the representation of individual nutrients, minerals, and vitamins in children with epidermolysis bullosa congenita in the age range of 1 to 18. The final findings are based on the analyses of data of 30.6% sample of children patients with the EBC disease in the Czech Republic. Both objective and subjective observations were used with two forms of the disease with different clinical signs (EBD, EBS). The children patents with undernourishment made 71% of the whole sample (92% EBD, and 43% EBS). Serious undernourishment was found only in the dystrophic form of epidermolysis bullosa congenita (EBD), i.e. with 42% of children with undernourishment. One children patient (EBS) was able to cover his/her energy need only with diet, one patient (EBD) with diet and sipping. The combination of increased requirements of EBC patients for nutrition and the decreased food intake due to the disease causes long-lasting healing of wounds and results in undernourishment of such children.
