Evaluation of the competitiveness of the Czech Republic's regions

Abstract:

Práce pojednává o hodnocení regionální konkurenceschopnosti jak na teoretické úrovni, tak na praktické úrovni. Teoretická část práce popisuje významné koncepty národní i regionální konkurenceschopnosti a metody jejího měření a hodnocení. V praktické části se autorka zaměřuje na aplikaci indexu konkurenceschopnosti vytvořeného profesorem Hugginsem pro hodnocení regionů ve Velké Británii. Cílem práce je aplikovat daný index na kraje České republiky a srovnat výsledky výše zmíněného indexu a indexu konkurenceschopnosti používaného ve Strategii regionálního rozvoje ČR 2014 - 2020. Autorka shledává, že výsledky indexů se pro některé regiony různí. V práci je představeno nové rozdělení krajů do skupin dle výsledků indexu konkurenceschopnosti dle Hugginse. Výsledky indexu potvrzují stanovené hypotézy. Praha je dominantně se rozvíjející region, který pozitivně ovlivňuje rozvoj Středočeského a Plzeňského kraje. Naopak nejnižších výsledků dosáhly kraje Karlovarský, Ústecký a Moravskoslezský, které spojují strukturální problémy.

Abstract:

The diploma thesis is focused on evaluation of regional competitiveness for both theoretical and practical levels. Theoretical part describes important conceptions of national and also regional competitiveness, their methods of measuring and evaluation. In the practical part author is focusing on the application of competitiveness index created by Professor Huggins for evaluation of regional competitiveness in the Great Britain. The goal of the thesis is application of this index to the regions of the Czech Republic and comparison of its results with competitiveness index used in Strategie regionálního rozvoje ČR 2014 -- 2020. Author finds the results differ for some regions. In the thesis there are regions sorted into new groups according to the results of the competitiveness index created by Huggins. Results of the index confirm established hypothesis. Prague is the dominant region which has positive influence on development of Středočeský and Plzeňský regions. On the contrary the lowest results are reached by Karlovarský, Ústecký and Moravskoslezský regions, which are suffering with structural problems.
