Computer games in biological education at primary and secondary schools

Abstract:

Tato práce se zabývá problematikou využití počítačových her ve vzdělávání. Je zaměřena na zmapování nabídky počítačových her a jejich využití ve výuce biologie na základních a středních školách. Mapování nabídky počítačových her probíhalo pomocí vyhledávání na Internetu. Možnosti využití počítačových her ve výuce přírodopisu a biologie byly posuzovány na základě teoretických znalostí. Byl proveden výzkum pomocí elektronického dotazníku mezi učiteli základních a středních škol. Zmapování nabídky dostupných her vedlo ke zjištění, že vhodných her je velice málo. Na základě výsledků průzkumu lze říci, že počítačové hry jsou u nás využívány ve výuce jenom v malé míře. Postoj pedagogů k jejich zařazení je kladný, ale projevuje se nedostatečná nabídka vhodných her. Výsledky práce mohou být podnětem ke spolupráci tvůrců her a pedagogů, která by vedla k vytváření her potřebných pro školskou praxi.

Abstract:

The present thesis deals with the issue of how computer games may be used in the education process. The thesis is aimed at mapping the computer games that are currently available in the market and their use in teaching biology in primary and secondary schools. The mapping of the games that are available in the market was carried out through searching the Internet. The options of using the games for teaching natural history and biology were assessed on the basis of theoretical knowledge. A survey was made using an electronic questionnaire distributed among the primary and secondary school teachers. The mapping of the marketed games led to the conclusion that there are actually very few suitable games. Based on the survey results, it can be concluded that in the Czech Republic, the computer games are used for education process to a small extent only. The teachers' approach to the integration of the games in school lessons is rather positive, but the problem is that there are only few suitable games available in the market. The results of the present thesis may act as a stimulus to the cooperation between the game designers and the teachers, which would give rise to the games that are useful and apt for school practice.
