Activities of Municipally Owned Corporations in Prague in the Context of Smart City Concept

Abstract:

Rostoucí urbanizace a rozmach městského způsobu života představuje pro města velké výzvy. V posledních dvou dekádách proto vznikají koncepty a strategie, které navrhují řešení komplexních problémů. Jedním z nich je koncept Smart City, kterým se zabývá tato práce. Cílem práce je analyzovat aktivity vybraných pražských podniků, které jsou vlastněny hlavním městem, a navrhnout doporučení pro tyto společnosti a také pro hlavní město samotné ohledně rozvoje aktivit souvisejících s oblastí Smart City s ohledem na potřeby a postoje Pražanů. V teoretické části práce jsou vymezeny základní pojmy a charakteristiky Smart City, dále autorka analyzuje vybrané akciové společnosti a chytré projekty, které tyto společnosti implementují v souladu s principy Smart City. Autorka pracovala se sekundárními daty k analýze podniků a aktivit a také využila primárních dat z vlastního výzkumu. Výsledky z výzkumu naznačují, že občané v průměru spíše nebo rozhodně souhlasí s realizací projektů v souladu s konceptem Smart City, jsou spíše spokojení s implementovanými projekty a více než polovina dotazovaných považovala rozvoj Smart City aktivit v Praze za spíše nebo rozhodně nedostačující. Na závěr autorka uvádí několik doporučení pro další rozvoj smart aktivit.

Abstract:

The growing urbanization and proliferation of urban lifestyles pose significant challenges for cities. Over the past two decades, concepts and strategies have emerged that propose solutions to complex problems. One such concept is the Smart City, which is the focus of this study. The aim of the thesis is to analyze the activities of selected Prague-based companies that are owned by the city, and to provide recommendations for these companies and the city itself regarding the development of Smart City activities, taking into account the needs and attitudes of Prague citizens. The theoretical part of the paper defines the basic concepts and characteristics of the Smart City, and the author further analyzes selected companies and smart projects that these companies implement in accordance with the principles of Smart City. The author worked with secondary data to analyze companies and activities and also utilized primary data from her own research. The results of the research indicate that citizens generally agree or strongly agree with the implementation of projects in line with the Smart City concept. They are generally satisfied with the implemented projects, and more than half of the respondents considered the development of Smart City activities in Prague to be insufficient. In conclusion, the author provides several recommendations for further development of smart activities.
