Diabetes Mellitus from the Perspective of a Paramedic

Abstract:

Tématem bakalářské práce je onemocnění diabetes mellitus, jehož incidence celosvětově stále roste. Zdravotničtí záchranáři se setkávají s akutními komplikacemi diabetu v rámci první pomoci mezi prvními a je důležité, aby správně a včasně diagnostikovali jejich projevy. Teoretická část předkládané práce se zabývá fyziologií, patofyziologií a léčbou nejčastějších typů diabetu mellitu. Také jsou zde popsané konkrétní akutní komplikace, které musejí posádky rychlé zdravotnické pomoci řešit. Praktická část obsahuje průzkumné šetření, při kterém je zvolena metoda kvalitativního průzkumu s využitím osobních polostrukturovaných rozhovorů. Hlavním cílem kvalitativního průzkumu je zjistit zkušenosti pacientů (diabetiků) s tímto onemocněním, komplikacemi a případným využitím zdravotnické záchranné služby. Výsledky rozhovorů ukazují na fakt, že ke komplikacím spojeným s diabetem mellitem došlo jen v případech vlastní nedbalosti nebo při špatné adaptaci na změnu léčby.

Abstract:

The topic of the bachelor's thesis is diabetes mellitus, disease, the incidence of which is still increasing worldwide. Paramedics are among the first to encounter acute complications of diabetes in first aid and important is their correct and early diagnosis of this disease manifestations. The theoretical part of the presented work deals with the physiology, pathophysiology and treatment of the most common types of diabetes mellitus. Specific acute complications that must be dealt with by emergency medical aid crews are described here as well. The practical part contains an exploratory investigation, in which the method of qualitative research is chosen using personal semi-structured interviews. The main object of the qualitative exploration is to find out the experiences of patients (diabetics) with this disease, complications and possible use of emergency medical services. The results of these interviews show the fact that complications associated with diabetes mellitus occurred only in cases of personal negligence or poor adaptation to a change in treatment.
