Abstract:

Tato diplomová práce se zabývá výukou anglické výslovnosti se zaměřením na české mluvčí, konkrétně dospělé. Teoretická část stručně popisuje jednotlivé metody během historického vývoje výuky angličtiny a jejich přístupy k výuce výslovnosti. Dále jsou zde popsány hlavní faktory které mají vliv na učení se výslovnosti. Anglický fonetický systém je porovnáván s českým. Pozornost je věnována zvukům a jevům které jsou problematické pro české mluvčí. Teoretickou část obsahuje také krátkou analýzu vybraných učebnic anglické výslovnosti a metod užívaných v učebnicích angličtiny pro dospělé. Praktická část popisuje výzkum výuky anglické výslovnosti v praxi. Jsou zde použity dva dotazníky, jeden pro učitele a druhý pro studenty, oba zjišťují rozsah výuky anglické výslovnosti v českém prostředí a nejčastěji používané metody. Je zde použit experimentální výzkum kdy jsou v určitém časovém rozmezí pořízeny nahrávky dvou skupin studentů čtoucích stejný anglický text. V době mezi pořízením nahrávek jsou studentům z jedné skupiny představeny aktivity na procvičování anglické výslovnosti. Nahrávky obou skupin jsou porovnány se zaměřením na faktory výslovnosti které se zlepšily. Na závěr praktické části jsou uvedeny principy, cíle a aktivity využité při experimentálním výzkumu.

Abstract:

This diploma thesis deals with teaching English pronunciation to adult Czech adult students in an EFL context. The theoretical section of this thesis presents a brief historical overview of the main English teaching methods and approaches and their attitudes towards teaching pronunciation. Factors which affect learning pronunciation such as the learner's age or native language, are also briefly described here. The English phonetic system is compared with that of Czech, with special attention being paid to the sounds and features considered to be problematic for Czech speakers. The theoretical part also contains a short analysis of selected English pronunciation textbooks as well as those methods used to teach and practice pronunciation in general English textbooks for adults. The practical section describes the research designed and conducted by the author of this thesis. Survey research consists of two questionnaires, one for teachers, the other for students. Both questionnaires are aimed at disclosing information about people's experience with teaching and learning pronunciation and the most commonly used methods in a Czech context. In the experimental research section, two groups of students are recorded twice, within a three-month interval, reading the same English text. During this period, activities for practising English pronunciation are introduced in one of the groups. The first and second recording of each student are then compared, as are the two groups, focusing on those factors of pronunciation which may have improved. Principles, objectives and activities, used to this achieve improvement are enclosed at the end of the practical section.
