Taboo topic in children` s and youth literature.

Abstract:

The theme of this thesis are taboo topics in child and youth literature. The work in each chapter deals with a theoretical overview of the history of children's and youth literature, biographies of the authors of selected works and analysis of individual works. In one chapter the author of this thesis puts the question of what is actually a taboo and how it can be defined. The main objective of this work is to analyze selected works concerning content, characters and taboo themes treated. Selected works for this work are Alice in Wonderland (Lewis Carroll), Erwachsene reden. Marco hat was getan. (Kirsten Boie) and Alter John (Peter Härtling). The first is the most difficult book in terms of interpretation. There are different opinions on what was the author‘s actual aim when writing the book, furthermore there are doubts whether it is a children's book at all. It probably contains educational taboos of the Victorian environment, a related theme is adolescence. Alice in Wonderland is the only book from English-speaking environment in this thesis. Erwachsene reden. Marco hat was getan. deals with racial intolerance and hereby caused violence in society. The peculiarity of this work lies in its structure. The book is a collection of fictitious allegations of an act committed by the novel‘s main protagonist. Work Alter John is one of the children's novels. It deals with the topic of coexistence with an elder within a family. It doesn’t leave out of consideration everyday experiences, but covers also topics such as disease and death that are related to old age. As stated in the conclusion of this thesis, each of these books is different from another in terms of its theme and structure, characters descriptions and the taboo treatment. All are certainly valuable works, which offer not only the child reader new insights into current issues and the possibility of reflection.

Abstract:

Témou tejto diplomovej práce sú tabuizované témy v detskej a mládežníckej literatúre. Práca sa v jednotlivých kapitolách zaoberá teoretickým prehľadom histórie detskej a mládežníckej literatúry, životopismi autorov vybraných diel a analýzou jednotlivých diel. V jednej z kapitol si kladie otázku, čo je vlastne tabu a ako je možné ho definovať. Hlavným cieľom práce bolo vybrané diela analyzovať z hľadiska obsahu, postáv a spracovanej tabuizovanej témy. Vybranými dielami pre túto prácu sú Alice im Wunderland (Lewis Carroll), Erwachsene reden. Marco hat was getan. (Kirsten Boie), Alter John (Peter Härtling). Prvá z menovaných kníh je najzložitejšia, čo sa týka interpretácie. Existujú rôzne názory na to, čo vlastne autor pri písaní knihy sledoval a čo bolo jeho cieľom, takisto ako existujú polemiky už o tom, či sa vôbec jedná o detskú knihu. Pravdepodobne je v knihe spracované výchovné tabu viktoriánskeho prostedia, ďalšou súvisiacou témou je dospievanie. Kniha Alice im Wunderland je ako jediná v rámci tejto práce z anglicky hovoriaceho prostredia. Román Erwachsene reden. Marco hat was getan. pojednáva o rasovej neznášanlivosti a násilí, ktoré na základe týchto postojov v spoločnosti vzniká. Zvláštnosť tohto diela spočíva v spracovaní. Kniha je totiž zbierkou fiktívnych výpovedí o skutku, ktorý spáchal hlavný hrdina románu. Dielo Alter John sa radí medzi detské romány. Spracováva tému spolužitia so starším človekom v rámci rodiny. Neopomína každodenné zážitky, ale ani témy ako choroba a smrť, ktoré so starobou súvisia. Ako sa uvádza v závere práce, každá z týchto kníh sa líši od tých ďalších jednak témou, členením knihy, popisom postáv a spracovaním tabu. Všetky sú však určite hodnotnými dielami, ktoré nielen detskému čitateľovi ponúkajú nové náhľady na existujúce témy a možnosti zamyslenia sa.
