Veganism through the eyes of students

Abstract:

Popularita veganství v posledních letech roste. Zároveň s tím se mění i postoje k tomuto životnímu stylu. Práce se zaměřuje na způsoby, jakým studenti vnímají veganství a na souvislosti mezi charakteristikami a názory. Dotazníkového šetření bylo provedeno na Fakultě regionálního rozvoje a mezinárodních teritoriálních studií Mendelovi univerzity v Brně. Byli zpracovávány data od 247 studentů. Dotazník cílil na všechny skupiny studentů. Studenti na veganství pohlížejí spíše pozitivně. Vegansky se stravovalo 5,66 % respondentů a mírně převažovali ženy. Ženy také častěji vynechávaly některé živočišné produkty. Neprokázala se souvislost mezi pohlavím a stavováním se vegansky nebo vynecháváním živočišných produktů. Respondenti vnímají dopady veganství na životní prostředí jako více pozitivní. Neprokázání souvislosti s pohlavím byla způsobena nepoměrem pohlaví ve skupině respondentů. Studenti vnímají veganství jako šetrnější k životnímu prostředí.

Abstract:

The popularity of veganism has been growing in recent years. At the same time, attitudes towards this lifestyle are changing. This thesis focuses on the ways in which students perceive veganism and the links between characteristics and opinions. The questionnaire survey was conducted at the Faculty of Regional Development and International Territorial Studies of Mendel University in Brno. Final number of questionnaires is 247. The questionnaire targeted all groups of students. Students have a rather positive view of veganism. 5.66% of the respondents ate vegan and women were slightly predominant. Women were also more likely to skip some animal products. There was no association between gender and going vegan or skipping animal products. Respondents perceive the environmental impacts of veganism as more positive. The failure to show a link with gender was due to the gender disproportion in the respondent group. Students view veganism as less harming to the environment.
