The class: between the novel and the film

Abstract:

The aim of this thesis is based on a comparison of the novel Entre les murs, written by François Bégaudeau, with its film adaptation when we want to show the book´s necessity of the author which stands in contrast to the spontaneity and to the dynamism of the speaking film. The theoretical part deals with definitions of basic concepts, it represents the models of adaptation, general characteristic of the analysed novel, formation of the script and of the film. A considerable attention is devoted to the language registers, especially to the language of young people. The practical part studies the style of the author of the novel ant the talks of young actors in terms of phonetic, morphological, syntactic and lexical planes. Then we confront the individual speeches and we show at what points the author could or could not predict the language of youth. The last chapter is devoted to quantitative analysis, which examines the ratio of adapted text to non adapted. Furthermore, we deal with the adaptation of the characters and we compare the sub-standard vocabulary in the book with the sub-standard vocabulary in the script and in the film.

Abstract:

Cílem této diplomové práce je na základě srovnání románu Entre les murs, jehož autorem je François Bégaudeau, s jeho filmovou adaptací ukázat knižní nezbytnost autora, která stojí v protikladu se spontánností a dynamikou mluveného projevu filmu. Teoretická část práce obsahuje definice základních pojmů, představuje jednotlivé adaptační modely, obecnou charakteristiku analyzovaného románu, vznik scénáře a filmu. Nemalá pozornost je věnovaná jazykovým rovinám, zejména pak jazyku mladých. V praktické části charakterizujeme z hlediska fonetického, morfo-syntaktického a lexikálního styl autora románu a promluvy mladých herců. Následně konfrontujeme jednotlivé projevy a ukážeme, v jakých bodech autor dokázal či nedokázal odhadnout jazyk mladých. Poslední kapitola práce je věnovaná kvantitativní analýze, která zkoumá poměr adaptovaného textu vůči neadaptovanému. Dále se zde zabýváme adaptací postav a srovnáním sub-standardního lexika v knize, scénáři a filmu.
