The pension system in the Czech Republic in comparison with Great Britain

Abstract:

Některé prvky sociálního zabezpečení určitých společenských skupin se objevují již v prvních státních systémech Evropy. S komplexní obligatorní úpravou důchodů se setkáváme převážně až na přelomu devatenáctého a dvacátého století. Výrazné prodlužování lidského věku i ekonomická situace v mnoha zemích vedou k tomu, že penzijní systémy podléhají neustálým změnám. Klíčovou otázkou jsou vztahy mezi jedincem a státem, případně dalšími subjekty, především zaměstnavateli. Kdo by měl nést zodpovědnost za zabezpečení člověka v období jeho stáří – on sám nebo stát? Je zřejmé, že by to měla být záležitost obou stran. Neustálé reformy penzijních systémů, které dosahují v různých zemích odlišné úspěšnosti, hledají poměr zodpovědnosti jedince a společnosti. Významnou roli zde v jednotlivých státech hraje též tradice, která vedle demografických a ekonomických faktorů může vést k různým odlišnostem systémů. Cílem této diplomové práce je komparace důchodových systémů České republiky a Velké Británie.

Abstract:

Some elements of the welfare system of certain social groups appeared in the first state systems of Europe. However, the complex mandatory modification of pensions can be seen at the turn of the twentieth century. A significant prolongation of the life span as well as the economic situation in many countries lead to the fact that pension systems are subject to a constant change. The key issue is the relationship between an individual and the state, eventually other entities, especially employers. Who should take responsibility for the welfare in a person’s old age – the individual or the state? Obviously, both parties need to be involved. The constant reforms of pension systems, achieved by different countries, however, differ in success, and search for a balance in responsibility of an individual and the society. In addition, tradition plays an important role in each country, which can lead together with demographic and economic factors to a variety of welfare systems. The aim of this thesis is a comparison of the pension system of the Czech Republic and Great Britain.
