Democratic Deficit of the EU as a Political Problem in the Czech Republic

Abstract:

Tato magisterská diplomová práce se zabývá demokratickým deficitem EU. Cílem práce je zjistit, nakolik je problematika demokratického deficitu EU reflektována v České republice. Vycházíme z předpokladu, že v důsledku evropeizace vstupují evropská témata do národních politických systémů a aktéři tohoto systému je reflektují, například ve svých programových dokumentech. Práce metodou diskurzivní analýzy rozebírá klíčové aktéry politického systému, a to relevantní politické strany. Konkrétně prostřednictvím volebních programů a mediálních výstupů představitelů těchto subjektů. Zkoumané období začíná březnem 1998, kdy byly oficiálně zahájeny rozhovory o vstupu ČR do EU, a končí takřka současností – rokem 2016. Problém demokratického deficitu tedy EU je řešen již v období před vstupem ČR do EU tak, aby bylo zohledněno jak období příprav na členství, tak doba, kdy ČR působí uvnitř EU.

Abstract:

This diploma thesis deals with the democratic deficit of the EU. The aim of the thesis is to find out how much the issue of the EU's democratic deficit is reflected in the Czech Republic. The thesis is based on assumption that European themes, as the result of Europeanisation, are entering the national political systems and the actors of this system are reflecting it, for example, in their manifestos. The method of discursive analysis is used to analyse the relevant political parties, the key actors of the political system. Election manifestos and media outputs of the relevant party representatives are analysed. The analysed period starts in March 1998, when official talks on accession of the Czech Republic to the EU were officially launched and ends almost today - 2016. Therefore, the democratic deficit is analysed already in the period before the accession of the Czech Republic to the EU. Both the period of preparation for membership and the period, when the Czech Republic is the member of the EU are taken into account.
