Frustration tolerance in relation to coping with stress and locus of control

Abstract:

Diplomová práce se zaměřuje na vztah mezi frustrační tolerancí, strategiemi zvládání stresu a místem regulace (LOC). Cílem studie bylo teoretické a empirické prozkoumání vzájemných vztahů mezi agresivními reakcemi na frustraci dle teorie Saula Rosenzweiga, místem regulace Juliana Rottera a strategiemi zvládání stresu podle Jankeho a Erdmannové. Výzkumný vzorek, na kterém byly vzájemné vztahy zkoumány, obsahoval 96 vysokoškolských studentů. Agresivní reakce byly měřeny Obrázkově frustračním testem, strategie zvládání stresu testem SVF 78 a místo regulace dotazníkem I – E. Byly nalezeny signifikantní rozdíly mezi místem regulace v závislosti na pohlaví, některé hypotézy byly proto analyzovány zvlášť pro muže a ženy. Nalezli jsme silný vztah mezi externalitou a rezignačními strategiemi a internalitou a strategiemi kontroly. Oba vztahy byly potvrzeny pouze pro skupinu žen. Také byly nalezeny korelace mezi reakcemi na frustraci a strategiemi zvládání stresu. Agrese zaměřená na okolí korelovala se strategií odmítání viny u obou skupin, u žen byl nalezen vztah mezi strategiemi kontroly a takovými reakcemi na frustraci, kdy samy ženy slibovaly vyřešit problém. Poslední analýzy se týkaly vztahu mezi místem regulace a reakcemi na agresi, většina námi stanovených hypotéz se ale nepotvrdila. Nalezli jsme významný vztah mezi internalitou a snahou sám vyřešit problém. Zmíněný vztah byl nalezen opět jen u skupiny žen. Potvrzením sedmi hypotéz jsme prokázali existenci vztahu mezi místem regulace a reakcemi na stres. Byly nalezeny i vztahy týkající se agresivních reakcí na frustraci. Pro přesnější formulaci vzájemných vztahů navrhujeme jejich ověření na větším vzorku.

Abstract:

The diploma thesis is focused on the relationship between frustration tolerance, coping with stress and locus of control. The goal of our research was teoretical and empirical exploration of correlations between aggressive reactions to frustration in terms of Saul Rosenzweig´s theory, locus of control in compliance with Julian Rotter and coping strategies by Janke and Erdmann. The research sample consisted of 96 university students. Aggressive reactions were meassured by Picture – frustration test, coping strategies were meassured by SVF 78 and locus of control was meassured by I-E . We found significant differences in locus of control and some coping strategies in dependence on gender, thus we analyzed some hypothesis separately for women and men. We discovered strong correlations among externality and Resignation strategies, and between internality and Control strategies, both in the group of women. Correlations between coping with stress and aggressive reactions were also found. Aggression focused toward others correlated with refusing the blame for frustration in both monitored groups, women declarated relation between Control strategies and those reactions to frustrating situations, when they promised to solve the problem on their own. The last analysis was related to relation among reactions to aggression and locus of control, but the major part of our hypothesis was not confirmed. We found significant correlation only between internality and the pledge to settle the problem. Mentioned relation was found only for the group of women. By confirmation of seven hypothesis we proved dependence between locus of control and coping strategies. Some relations involving reactions to frustrations were found, but for more accurate formulation of mutual correlations, confirmation at grater sample is proposed.
