Correlation between slavery in the United States and race

Abstract:

This work challenges the popular opinion that slavery in the United States was only about race and racism. Firstly, it explores the topic of slavery as a business and tries to challenge this popular opinion with numbers and business information regarding Southern slavers. Secondly, this work explores the issue of the African-American slave owners and arguments against this mentioned opinion with their amount and their motivation. Lastly, this work covers the religious factor, which plays a specific role in slavery as well, as it can be twisted and misinterpreted to justify and support slavery. This work does not try to deny a certain amount of racism in slavery. However, it states and proves that slavery was not built on racism, as primarily it was a business. Along with the other two factors, they overshadow today's popular opinion about slavery being solely about racism.

Abstract:

Cílem této práce je zpochybnit populární názor, že otroctví ve Spojených státech amerických bylo jen o rase a rasismu. Tato práce se nejprve zabývá tématem otroctví jako byznysu a snaží se toto tvrzení zpochybnit čísly a obchodními informacemi týkajícími se jižanských otrokářů. Za druhé tato práce zkoumá téma afroamerických otrokářů, přičemž jejich počet a motivace do otroctví argumentuje proti tomuto populárnímu názoru. Na závěr se tato práce zabývá náboženským faktorem, který také hraje určitou roli v otroctví, protože náboženství a jeho svaté texty mohou být lehce překrouceny a dezinterpretovány k obhajobě i takové věci, jako je otroctví. Tato práce nepopírá určitou míru rasismu v otroctví, nicméně tvrdí a dokazuje že otroctví nebylo postaveno na rasismu, neboť šlo především o byznys, který spolu s našimi dvěma probranými faktory v této práci zastiňují tento populární názor, že otroctví je jen o rase a rasismu.
