Prevalence of obesity and overweight in selected populations

Abstract:

Výskyt nadváhy a obezity je ovlivněn rozvojem naší společnosti. Změna životního stylu spojená především s vyšší konzumací energeticky bohatých potravin a snížení fyzické aktivity působí negativně na naše zdraví. Nadváha a obezita vedou ke zhoršení zdravotního stavu, jsou rizikovým faktorem pro vznik diabetes mellitus II. typu, vysokého krevního tlaku, zvýšené hladině tuků v krvi, které dále působí jako faktor při vzniku kardiovaskulárních chorob a dalších závažných onemocnění. Cílem mé diplomové práce bylo sledovat výskyt nadváhy a obezity u vysokoškolských studentů Ostravské univerzity v Ostravě. Teoretická část se zabývá životosprávou, rizikovými faktory, diagnostikou, možnostmi léčby a prevence nadváhy a obezity. V praktické části jsou zpracovány výsledky dotazníkového šetření, které bylo zaměřeno na životní styl vysokoškolských studentů. Šetření bylo prováděno na dvou fakultách, lékařské a pedagogické. Získané údaje jsou zpracovány do přehledných tabulek a grafů, statisticky zpracovány a vyhodnoceny. V závěru byl vytvořen krátký informační materiál pro danou cílovou skupinu, který poskytuje užitečné rady a základní informace k prevenci nadváhy a obezity.

Abstract:

Existence of overweight and obesity is influenced by the development of our society. The change of life style is primarily associated with the higher consummation of energy-rich foods and reduced physical activities which negatively influences our health. The overweight and obesity lead to the worsening status of health. Moreover they are risk factors for diabetes mellitus II. type, higher blood pressure, elevated blood fats, which also act as a factor in cardiovascular diseases and other serious illness. The aim of my diploma thesis was to observe existence of overweight and obesity among the university students of Ostrava University in Ostrava. The theoretical part deals with the lifestyle, risk factors, diagnosis, treatment options and prevention of overweigh and obesity. The practical part presents the results of questionnaire survey which focused on the lifestyle of university students. The research was done in two faculties, medical and pedagogical. The obtained data are processed to clear tables and graphs and they are statistically processed and evaluated. In conclusion was created an information material for the target group which provides helpful tips and the basics information how to prevent the overweight and obesity.
