The Prevention of Senior Injuries

Abstract:

Senioři jsou, co se týče úrazů velice ohroženou věkovou kategorií. Počet úmrtí na následky úrazů se stoupajícím věkem stále přibývá. Je to dáno fyziologickými změnami pojícími se ke stáří - slabší smyslové vnímání, snížená pohyblivost a svalová síla, zhoršený úsudek v rizikových situacích, poruchy chování v důsledku onemocnění a celkovou stařeckou křehkostí. V České republice se počet osob nad 65 let každoročně zvyšuje, a proto je čím dál důležitější zaobírat se otázkou prevence úrazů u seniorů, jak na úrovni státu (budování bezbariérových přístupů, preventivní programy), tak u každého jednotlivce zvlášť (edukace, přizpůsobování obydlí potřebám starších osob a celkové zkvalitňování jejich života). Cílem bakalářské práce je uvést problematiku úrazů ohrožujících seniory se zaměřením na možnosti prevence. Práce je zpracována formou literární rešerše. V bakalářské práci je vysvětlen pojem stáří, jakožto poslední vývojová etapa života a pojem stárnutí, popisující fyziologický proces, při kterém dochází k pozvolným změnám v celém organismu. Dále jsou v textu charakterizovány nejčastější nemoci u seniorů, v jejichž důsledku může docházet k mnoha úrazům, nebo které mohou významně zhoršit stav po úrazech. Dále je uvedena epidemiologie úrazů u seniorů, podrobný popis nejčastějších úrazů s možnostmi jejich prevence a nakonec se práce zaměřuje na politiku stárnutí, preventivní a další činnosti v této oblasti.

Abstract:

Seniors are, in terms of accidents, a very vulnerable age category. The number of deaths caused by accidents with advancing age is still increasing. This is happening due to physiological changes related to getting older - weaker sensory perception, reduced mobility and muscle strength, impaired judgment in risky situations, behavioral disorders due to illness and overall fragility. In the Czech Republic the number of people over 65 years is increasing annualy and therefore it is more important to entertain the question of accident prevention in old age - both at the state level (building a barrier-free accesses, preventive programs) so each individual separately (education, adapting housing needs of older people and the overall improvement of their lives). The aim of the thesis is to introduce the issues of injuries threatening seniors with a focus on prevention. Thesis is processed through a form of literature review. The thesis explains the concept of old age, as the last developmental stage of life and the concept of aging describing as a physiological process in which there is gradual changes in the whole organism. In the text there are also characterization of most common diseases in older age which can result in many injuries, or which can significantly worsen the condition after injuries. The following is an epidemiology of injuries among seniors, a detailed description of the most common injuries with the possibilities of their prevention and ultimately, the thesis focuses on the politics of aging, preventive and other activities in this area.
