Compensation strategies for adult learners with dyslexia aimed at developing reading comprehension skills in a foreign language.

Abstract:

Bakalářská práce se zabývá dospělými jedinci s dyslexií a problémy se čtením s porozuměním v cizím jazyce. Teoretická část charakterizuje dyslexii jako specifickou poruchu učení a popisuje její příčiny a projevy. Objasňuje, jak se dyslexie promítá do čtení s porozuměním a charakterizuje jednotlivé složky čtení s porozuměním v cizím jazyce. V praktické části jsou vedeny polostrukturované rozhovory s dospělými jedinci s dyslexií o kompenzačních strategiích, které používají při čtení v cizím jazyce. Porovnáním uvedených strategií se strategiemi, které doporučuje odborná literatura, jsou v závěru práce navrženy kompenzační strategie, které by mohli používat učitelé a lektoři cizího jazyka ve své výuce pro zlepšení čtení s porozuměním pro jedince s dyslexií.

Abstract:

This bachelor thesis deals with adults with dyslexia and their problems with reading comprehension. The theoretical part of the thesis provides characteristics of dyslexia as a specific learning disability and describes its individual features, causes and manifestations. It provides clarification on how dyslexia affects reading comprehension in a foreign language and describes the individual components of reading comprehension in a foreign language. The practical part contains a record of semi-structured interviews with adults with dyslexia and provides an overview of the compensation strategies that they use for reading comprehension. At the end of this thesis there are suggestions for teachers or lecturers of foreign languages how to improve reading comprehension for adult students with dyslexia which they can use during their lessons. These recommendations combine the strategies which are used by the adults with dyslexia who participated in my research and the strategies suggested by expert sources.
