The effect of the external land border of the European Union on illegal migration to the territory of the Czech and Slovak Republics in 2015 – 2020

Abstract:

Tato diplomová práce se zabývá vlivem pozemní hranice EU na tranzitní nelegální migraci skrze dva malé evropské státy mimo hlavní migrační trasy. Ve světle událostí posledních let je tématika nelegální migrace směrem do Evropy stále aktuální, možná i více než dříve. Autorka staví komparativní případovou studii na teoreticko-metodologickém rámci borderingu. Tento koncept provazuje s migrační politikou obou států, fyzickou ochranou pozemních hranic i vývojem tranzitní nelegální migrace ve sledovaném období. Pomocí analýz vybraných faktorů České a Slovenské republiky a následné komparaci výsledků se autorka snaží nalézt odpověď na otázku, zda má neexistence vnější pozemní hranice v rámci českých pozemních hranic vliv na jejich ochranu, tranzitní migraci a zapojení do akcí agentury Frontex. Otázka byla po vyhodnocení všech posuzovaných zkušeností zodpovězena záporně. I přes existující rozdíly mezi zkoumanými zeměmi nebyl prokázán vliv vnější pozemní hranice EU.

Abstract:

This thesis deals with the influence of the EU land border on transit illegal migration through two small European states outside the main migration routes. In light of the events of recent years, the issue of illegal migration to Europe is still relevant, perhaps even more than before. The author builds a comparative case study on the theoretical-methodological framework of bordering. This concept is connected with the migration policy of both states, the physical protection of land borders and the development of transit illegal migration in the monitored period. By analysing selected factors of the Czech and Slovak Republics and a subsequent comparison of the results, the author tries to find an answer to the question of whether the absence of an external land border within the Czech land borders has an effect on their protection, transit migration and involvement in the actions of the Frontex agency. The question was answered after evaluating all the assessed experiences. Despite existing differences between the examined countries, the influence of the EU's external land border was not proven.
