Justice for fifteen years old: the belief in a just world, the method and context

Abstract:

Disertační práce se zabývá konstruktem víry ve spravedlivý svět. Teoretická část práce se věnuje problematice spravedlnosti v psychologii. Text systematicky postupuje od obecných souvislostí a přesahů do příbuzných sociálních věd, přes různá psychologická vymezení až po koncept víry ve spravedlivý svět, který je stěžejním konceptem této práce. Hlavní tezí víry ve spravedlivý svět je přesvědčení, že každý člověk má potřebu věřit v to, že svět je spravedlivé místo, kde každý dostane to, co si zaslouží. Tento koncept byl posléze diskutován z různých hledisek. Z teoretické části vyplývá, že víra ve spravedlivý svět má souvislosti především s duševním zdravím, kdy působí jako protektivní faktor, má pozitivní vliv na prožívání stresu, hněvu, má pozitivní vliv na self-esteem, důvěru, orientaci na budoucnost a v konečném důsledku i na výkonové chování. Výzkumná část, které byla prováděna na datech sesbíraných v rámci patnáctiletého šetření longitudinální studie ELSPAC, se skládá ze tří studií. První se věnuje prozkoumání samotné metody zjišťování víry ve spravedlivý svět. Výsledkem je sestavení revidované verze dvou škál - obecné víry ve spravedlivý svět a osobní víry ve spravedlivý svět, se kterými se pracuje ve dvou následujících studiích práce. Druhá studie se zaměřuje na víru ve spravedlivý svět v kontextu rodiny. Výsledkem je zjištění, že osobní víra ve spravedlivý svět má specifickou složku, kterou lze predikovat pomocí rodičovské citové vazby. Třetí studie se zabývá souvislostmi víry ve spravedlivý svět s duševním zdravím. Výsledky potvrzují funkci víry ve spravedlivý svět, kdy působí jako faktor zmírňující vliv depresivity na prožívání psychosociální zátěže.

Abstract:

The dissertation thesis deals with the construct of belief in a just world. The theoretical part addresses the issues of justice in psychology. The text systematically covers the general context and overlaps with related social sciences, various psychological definition of justice, and arrives to the concept of the belief in a just world, which is the core concept of this work. The main thesis of the belief in a just world is the confidence that every person has a need to believe the world is a just place where everyone gets what they deserve. This concept is discussed from various points of view. The theoretical part shows that the belief in a just world is related primarily to mental health since it acts as a protective factor having positive effect on feelings of stress and anger, and also on self-esteem, confidence, focus on the future and as a result on the overall performance. The research part conducted on data collected within the fifteen-year longitudinal study ELSPAC investigation consists of three studies. The first study is exploration of the method of detecting the belief in a just world itself. The result is a compilation of a revised version of two scales - the general belief in a just world and the personal belief in a just world, which are both used in the next two subsequent studies. The second study focuses on the belief in a just world in the context of the family. The result is the finding that personal belief in a just world has a specific component, which can be predicted by parental attachment. The third study examines the belief in a just world in the context of mental health. The results confirm that the belief in a just world is a factor reducing the effect of depression on psychosocial stress perception.
