The formation of parental approach to a child with autism spectrum disorder

Abstract:

Cílem této výzkumné studie bylo získání vzhledu do specifické situace matek dětí s poruchou autistického spektra, které si ke svým potomkům vytvářejí svébytný přístup – odlišný od běžně využívaných přístupů v kontextu České republiky. Úvodní kapitoly poskytují vhled do současných poznatků o utváření přístupu k dítěti a nastiňuje specifickou situaci panující v kontextu péče o dítě s poruchou autistického spektra v rámci ČR. Na základě 9 výzkumných a 3 revizních polostrukturovaných rozhovorů se třemi matkami autor práce, za pomoci metody tematické analýzy, ve výsledcích formuloval 7 témat, jimiž se matky řídí při hledání a utváření přístupu k péči o dítě. Výsledky jsou srovnatelné se zjištěními autorů zahraničních studií zabývají-cích se danou problematikou. Jedno z témat - Pozorování a rozvoj výjimečných projevů dítěte, se od výsledků dosavadních studií odlišuje. Diskuze zhodnocuje získané výsledky a nastiňuje některá omezení výzkumu, stejně jako doporučení pro další práci na dané téma.

Abstract:

The aim of this research study was to gain insight into the specific situation of mothers of children with au-tism spectrum disorders whose approach to their offspring differs from approaches usually taken in the Czech Republic. The introduction part of this study provides an insight into the base of knowledge currently available in the research literature, as well as it enlightens the specific situation of raising a child with autism in the context of Czech Republic. Based on a thematic analysis of 9 semi-structured research interviews and 3 revision interviews with three mothers, the author has formulated 7 topics guiding the mothers in the search for, and creation of, their approach to the children. The results are comparable to the findings of authors of foreign studies concerned with the issue. However, one of the topics, namely observing and developing the child’s unique manifestations, differs from the results of studies carried out so far. In the discussion, the author assesses the results obtained, outlining certain limitations of the research and offering recommendations for further work in this field.
