Industry 4.0 Maturity Model for Manufacturing Small- and Medium-sized Enterprises

Abstract:

Industry 4.0 je významné téma s rostoucí důležitostí. Tato dizertační práce a s ní spojený výzkum popisuje proces identifikace kritických faktorů důležitých v malých a středních podnicích během implementace principů Industry 4.0. Hlavním cílem této práce je vytvoření nového modelu zralosti pro Industry 4.0, který zohledňuje tyto kritické faktory a poskytuje je v použitelné formě pro tyto organizace. Současně, tento nový model Industry 4.0 adoptuje nejlepší praktiky již existujících modelů zralosti pro Industry 4.0. Část Theoretical Part této práce zahrnuje rešerši literatury, porovnávací analýzu existujících modelů zralosti a připravenosti pro Industry 4.0 a doplňující výzkum. Rešerše literatury se zaměřuje na téma Industry 4.0 a v kombinaci s porovnávací analýzou vyústila v identifikaci kritických elementů a také nepokrytých oblastí v analyzovaných modelech. Následující doplňující výzkum vyřešil tyto nepokryté oblasti a navrhl pro ně řešení. Společně tyto poznatky reprezentují klíčové vstupy pro tvorbu tohoto nového modelu zralosti pro Industry 4.0 určeného pro malé a střední výrobní podniky. Tento model má potom zkratku, a je dále referován jako, I4MMSME. Následující část Creation and Description of I4MMSME popisuje proces tvorby. I4MMSME využívá vstupy části Theoretical Part. Tato část mimo jiné popisuje I4MMSME samotné společně se zásadními předpoklady, vlastnostmi a elementy. Dvě následující části Survey a Model Evaluation popisují průběh průzkumu mezi vybranými výrobními podniky a ověření modelu I4MMSME. V rámci průzkumu bylo provedeno šetření, během kterého byla zhodnocena vyspělost vybraných výrobních podniků. Ověření modelu pak bylo provedeno pomocí případových studií kde dva výrobní podniky a jejich rozvoj byl popsán z pohledu modelu I4MMSME, dále pomocí srovnání s modelem vytvořeným v rámci Evropské unie, a stručného souboru zpětné vazby v jiných publikacích. Poslední část Conclusions shrnuje samotný výzkum a hlavní přínosy. Tyto přínosy zahrnují metody, které se zaměřují na identifikované nepokryté oblasti a nevýhody, ustálení jednotné terminologie v rámci Industry 4.0 nebo definovaní jasných závislostí mezi dimenzemi v rámci I4MMSME. Samozřejmostí jsou pak navržené možnosti nových výzkumných otázek.

Abstract:

Industry 4.0 is an emerging topic with growing importance. This dissertation thesis and related research describe the process of critical factors’ identification relevant to small- and medium-sized enterprises during the implementation of Industry 4.0 principles. This thesis’s primary goal is to create a new Industry 4.0 maturity model that reflects these critical factors and provides a usable form for these organizations. At the same time, this new Industry 4.0 model adopts the best practices from the existing Industry 4.0 maturity models. The Theoretical Part of this thesis involves literature research, comparative analysis of existing Industry 4.0 maturity and readiness models, and complementary research. Literature research focused on Industry 4.0 in combination with comparative analysis resulted in the identification of critical elements but also gaps in the analyzed models. The following complementary research has resolved these gaps and has proposed solutions for them. Together, these findings represent key inputs for the creation of the new Industry 4.0 Maturity Model for Manufacturing Small- and Medium-sized Enterprises, abbreviated and referred to as I4MMSME. The following part, Creation and Description of I4MMSME, describes the model creation process. I4MMSME utilizes inputs from the Theoretical Part. This part also describes I4MMSME itself with all critical assumptions, traits, and elements. The next two parts, Survey and Model Evaluation, describe the survey process between chosen manufacturing enterprises and evaluation of I4MMSME. The survey conducts an assessment of chosen manufacturing enterprises. The evaluation was performed via case studies where the development of two manufacturing enterprises is described from I4MMSME's perspective, a comparison of an assessment model from the European Union, and a brief summary of feedback in other publications. The last part, Conclusions, summarizes the research and its main benefits. These benefits include new methods that address identified gaps and drawbacks, the establishment of unified terminology in the context of Industry 4.0, or the definition of explicit dependencies between dimensions within I4MMSME. There are also outlined possible new research questions.
