Developing Critical Thinking in EFL

Abstract:

Dovednost kritického myšlení se stala jednou z nejčastěji zdůrazňovaných potřeb vzdělávání v 21. století. Studie naznačují, že pokud má mít výuka kritického myšlení trvalý efekt, musí se stát součástí učebních osnov v celé šíři. Integrace výukových cílů kritického myšlení v EFL naráží ale na nesnáze jako jsou nedostatečně systematické vedení a nedostatek zdrojů a metodické podpory. Tato práce se zaměřuje na vymezení kritického myšlení a představení rámce, který by mohl být vodítkem při adaptaci výukových materiálů k podpoře kritického myšlení v kontextu středoškolského vzdělávání. V případové studii je demonstrován a zhodnocen konkrétní případ takové adaptace učebního materiálu.

Abstract:

Critical thinking skills have become one of the most frequently stressed educational needs in the 21st century. Studies suggest that if critical thinking education is to have a lasting effect, it needs to become part of the curriculum in its entirety. However, the integration of critical thinking learning objectives in EFL faces difficulties such as a lack of systematic guidance and insufficient resources and methodological support. This thesis aims at specifying critical thinking and presenting a framework that could guide the adaptation of teaching materials to promote critical thinking in the context of secondary education. A case study is used to demonstrate a specific instance of such an adaptation of teaching material.
