The specificities of social work with people with mental health issues from the point of view of the workers

Abstract:

Diplomová práce se zabývá specifiky sociální práce s osobami s duševním onemocněním z pohledu sociálních pracovníků. Teoretická část práce je rozdělena na tři stěžejní kapitoly. První se zaměřuje na osoby s duševním onemocněním jako klienty sociálních služeb. Je zde vymezeno duševní onemocnění, jeho důsledky, specifické potřeby klientů a systém sociálních služeb pro ně určený. Druhá kapitola vymezuje sociální práci a její metody s ohledem na specifika této cílové skupiny. Poslední kapitola teoretické části se věnuje profesi sociálního pracovníka, se kterou se pojí profesní kompetence, motivace k práci, úskalí pomáhající profese a psychická podpora jako forma duševní hygieny. Empirická část práce se zaměřuje na metodologii výzkumného šetření, interpretaci jeho výsledků a závěrečné shrnutí obsahující diskuzi nad těmito výsledky. Pro výzkumné šetření byl zvolen kvalitativní přístup a cílem výzkumu bylo zjistit, jak sociální pracovníci vnímají práci s osobami s duševním onemocněním.

Abstract:

The thesis looks into the specifics of social work with mentally ill people from the point of view of the social workers. The theoretical part is divided into three main chapters. The first chapter focuses on people with mental disorders as clients of social services. We define what mental disorder is, what impact does it have on the life of a client and how it influences the needs of the client and informs the system of social services offered. The second chapter describes social work and its methodology as it relates to this particular target group. The last theoretical chapter tackles the social work as a profession, required skills, motivation and challenges of an assisting profession, as well as the need for psychological support as a form of mental hygiene. The empirical part of this thesis focuses on research methodology and interpretation of results, and offers a conclusion and discussion of the findings. The thesis uses qualitative research, with the aim to map how social workers perceive their work with mentally ill clients.
