Banking and financial crisis in Greece

Abstract:

Cílem této práce je analýza příčin finanční a bankovní krize v Řecku, která začala v roce 2008. Nejprve je rozebrána obecná typologie finančních krizí, modely finančních krizí a modely predikce finančních krizí. Dále se zabývám vývojem Řecka v rozpočtové oblasti od vstupu do Evropské měnové unie až do současnosti. V další části analyzuji příčiny krize a využívám modely finančních krizí čtvrté generace, kde se krize rozdělí do jednotlivých modulů. Poslední část práce se soustředí na komparaci příčin řecké krize s krizí na Islandu, která proběhla ve stejném období. V práci bylo identifikováno více spouštěcích momentů řecké krize, a to především snižování ratingu, které pak ovlivnilo chování subjektů na finančních trzích a Řecko bylo vyloučeno z mezinárodního obchodování.

Abstract:

In this thesis, I intend to analyze the causes of the financial and banking crisis in Greece in 2008. Firstly, I focus on the general typology of the financial crisis, models of financial crises, and models of prediction of the financial crisis. The second part is about the economic development in Greece. It starts when Greece entered the European monetary union and follows until the present time. Next, I analyze the causes of the crisis more in detail and I use the models of the financial crisis of the fourth generation. In the last part, I compare the causes of the Greek crisis with the crisis in Iceland, which took place at the same time. In the thesis was identified more starting impulses. One of them is a low rating score, which strongly impacted investors’ behavior in international financial markets.
